Kai Trump Undergoes Major Medical Procedure
President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, is facing an unexpected setback in her golf career after undergoing surgery to repair a painful wrist injury suffered during her first collegiate tournament.
The 19-year-old University of Miami freshman broke the news Wednesday, sharing a photograph from her hospital bed with her left wrist wrapped in a large cast and supported by a sling.
The young golfer revealed that she initially hoped to avoid surgery but ultimately decided the procedure was necessary to protect her long-term health and future in the sport.
Kai explained her decision in an Instagram post, offering supporters an update on her recovery.
‘I recently underwent surgery to repair a wrist injury I sustained during my first tournament of the season.
‘While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love. It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination.

The injury occurred during the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
While attempting a shot near a cart path, Kai accidentally struck concrete concealed beneath the surface, sending a painful jolt through her arm.

She previously described the impact as feeling ‘like a shock on my arm.’
Medical examinations initially showed that she ‘didn’t fully tear’ her wrist, although doctors discovered a ‘little sliver’ of damage affecting cartilage and ligaments.
The president’s granddaughter reportedly received stem cell injections in hopes of recovering without surgery and avoiding a lengthy absence from competition.
However, the injury ultimately required an operation.
The setback comes just weeks after Kai Trump began her freshman year at the University of Miami, where she is pursuing her dream of competing at the collegiate level.
Her injured wrist reportedly affected her performance during the tournament, where she finished tied for 102nd among 120 competitors.
Despite the disappointing start, Kai made clear that she isn’t allowing the setback to derail her ambitions.
‘Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

She also expressed appreciation for the medical professionals who performed her surgery.
‘A special thank you to Dr. Carlson and the incredible team at HSS in New York for taking such great care of me, and to my teammates, coaches, family, and everyone who has supported me along the way.
The surgery adds another challenge to an already emotional transition into college life.
Kai, who committed to Miami in August 2024, previously documented her difficult goodbyes while leaving her family and friends in Jupiter, Florida.
In a YouTube video, she became emotional while discussing her departure for college, admitting that leaving loved ones behind was harder than she expected.
‘It’s just really sad that I have to say goodbye to everyone today,’ she said.
The move marked a major milestone for the young golfer, who has built a following by documenting her life and athletic ambitions on social media.
Now, instead of settling into her first competitive season, Kai faces a recovery period before returning to the golf course.
Her announcement did not specify when doctors expect her to resume competition.
Still, the president’s granddaughter is already looking ahead to her comeback.
‘For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever!’
