In an attempt to connect with younger voters ahead of the upcoming election, Vice President Kamala Harris joined the popular podcast Call Her Daddy. The episode, hosted by Alex Cooper, was expected to generate buzz and engagement among millennial and Gen Z listeners. However, instead of garnering praise, the interview flopped, drawing criticism and amassing a wave of negative reactions.

Within 16 hours of its release on YouTube, the episode had only garnered 100,000 views—a surprisingly low number given the platform’s reach and the show’s usual audience. Even more telling, the video currently has over 11,000 dislikes compared to just 4,900 likes, giving it a dismal 31% favorability rating. Many users took to the comments section to express their disappointment with Harris’ performance, calling out the “word salad” nature of her answers and the lack of substance.

The interview’s content, centered largely on abortion rights, did little to sway undecided voters or engage new supporters. Harris repeatedly hammered the same talking points that have been staples of her rhetoric, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s stance on abortion and the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. While Harris and Cooper aimed to frame the discussion as a defense of women’s rights, many listeners felt it was a predictable, uninspiring repetition of Democratic talking points.

One commenter wrote, “Break out the dressing, word salad incoming,” a sentiment echoed by others who found Harris’ answers to be vague and unconvincing. Another user speculated about the podcast’s next move, posting, “How long before these comments get disabled??” indicating the growing sentiment that the Vice President’s media team might soon take action to control the narrative by disabling comments or limiting visibility.

One user remarked, “The host of this podcast just nuked any perceived credibility she had,” highlighting that Cooper’s alignment with Harris seemed to diminish the podcast’s authenticity. For many, the episode came off as a blatant attempt to appeal to young, progressive voters—a tactic that has been repeatedly criticized as superficial and out of touch. Comments such as, “Call Her Daddy Podcast is gonna go down hill fast after this,” reflected the growing disillusionment with Harris’ efforts to connect with younger audiences.

The interview seemed more like a poorly executed campaign ad than a genuine conversation, and viewers weren’t buying it. In a particularly cringeworthy moment, Harris tried to connect with Cooper’s younger audience by referencing TikTok trends and casual lingo. However, the attempt backfired as many listeners found it patronizing and inauthentic. One user, called out the performative nature of the conversation, saying, “The cringe and lip service is off the charts.”

Despite holding the nation’s second-highest office, her approval ratings remain low, and she has struggled to gain traction with voters beyond her base. As the election approaches, the Harris-Walz campaign will need to rethink its strategy if it hopes to win over undecided voters.
