Karoline Leavitt Lights Up HuffPost Reporter Over Text, Posts Messages Publicly
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has released screenshots of a blunt, but heated exchange she had with a reporter with the left-leaning Huffington Post.
The incident, which Leavitt shared publicly on X, centered on a query from HuffPo reporter S.V. Dáte about an upcoming diplomatic meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting, set for the Hungarian capital of Budapest, was announced last week following a phone call between the two leaders.
A date has yet to be announced, but it will serve as the second meeting between the two leaders aimed at negotiating an end to the War in Ukraine. Trump and Putin previously met in Anchorage, Alaska for an opening round of talks.
In 1994, at the Budapest Memorandum, Russia pledged not to invade Ukraine in return for the country’s denuclearization following the Soviet Union’s dissolution. Date asked Leavitt whether there was any significance in choosing the location, which the press secretary interpreted as a loaded question.
“Is the president aware of the significance of Budapest? In 1994, Russia promised, in Budapest, not to invade Ukraine if it gave up nuclear weapons it inherited when the Soviet Union dissolved. Does he not see why Ukraine might object to that site? Who suggested Budapest? Thanks,” the reporter sneered.
Leavitt issued a brief, one-sentence response, saying “Your mom did.”
When Date responded, “Is this funny to you?,” Leavitt elaborated: “It’s funny to me that you actually consider yourself a journalist. You are a far left hack who nobody takes seriously, including your colleagues in the media, they just don’t tell you that to your face. Stop texting me your disingenuous, biased, and bulls*** questions.”
Accompanying the screenshot on X, Leavitt added: “Activists who masquerade as real reporters do a disservice to the profession.”
For context, S.V. Dáte of the Huffington Post is not a journalist interested in the facts. He is a left-wing hack who has consistently attacked President Trump for years and constantly bombards my phone with Democrat talking points.
