Kellyanne Conway Makes Eye-Popping Move, Don Jr. Responds: ‘A Little Too Swampy’

A principal architect of former President Donald Trump’s 2016 victory and former counselor has registered as a lobbyist for a Ukrainian oligarch, drawing sharp criticism from within Trump’s circle.

Last Friday, Kellyanne Conway filed papers to lobby on behalf of Victor Pinchuk, a prominent Ukrainian billionaire and philanthropist. Pinchuk has been vocal in his support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia, making him a significant figure in the geopolitical landscape. The move comes at a time when former President Trump and other Republicans have hinted at a potential reduction of U.S. support for Ukraine should Trump win the presidency again in 2024. The contract, reportedly worth $50,000 a month, positions Conway in direct representation of interests that could conflict with the isolationist tendencies Trump advocated during his tenure.

In a video on his Rumble channel, Donald Trump Jr. revealed his bewilderment and disappointment. “Listen, hey, I like Kellyanne, you know, I’ve known her for a long time. But this? It doesn’t make any sense to me,” Trump Jr. said. He added, “It’s just a little too swampy for my taste and honestly it’s tough to sort of… hard to believe.”

“The rich guys in Ukraine, they want the war to continue because they’re happy to send the guys dying on the battlegrounds as cannon fodder over there because they don’t have any power,” Trump Jr. said. Conway’s role will focus on strengthening U.S.-Ukraine relations, particularly in enhancing Ukraine’s image in the U.S. and securing more robust support in its defense against Russian advances. The task is complicated by her previous close association with Trump, who has been less enthusiastic about U.S. involvement in Ukraine.

Conway’s contract has sparked discontent among some Trump insiders who view it as an opportunistic move leveraging her ties to the ex-president. In a recent filing on the Justice Department’s FARA website, Conway laid out her blueprint to lobby U.S. lawmakers and opinion shapers, underscoring Ukraine’s pivotal role in safeguarding democratic values. She plans to amplify the narrative of Ukraine’s battle for liberty against Russia’s unprovoked military aggression according to The New York Times.

Additionally, Conway is gearing up to sway American dignitaries to attend next month’s edition of Pinchuk’s annual security conference in Kyiv according to the outlet. Just hours after her strategy went public, Conway took to social media to post a photo with former President Trump during a significant meeting in New Jersey, teasing “quite the visit today.” Meanwhile, Pinchuk, a post-Soviet Union steel magnate, has been a lavish spender in both Washington and Kyiv, aiming to sway power brokers.

His financial exploits include donating over $13 million to the Clinton Foundation since 2006 and a controversial $150,000 to Trump’s defunct charitable foundation in September 2015 for a brief video appearance at a security conference. Pinchuk also found himself tangentially involved in the special counsel’s probe into Trump’s Russia ties, over scrutinized payments for his appearance. Additionally, he was implicated in funding a report for Ukraine’s pro-Russia Yanukovych government, criticized for glossing over the jailing of a political opponent. Despite denials from Pinchuk, U.S. consultants confirmed his financial backing of the controversial report.
