U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) notified attorneys for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member who is currently facing human trafficking charges, that their client may soon be deported to the African nation of Uganda after he was released from jail in Tennessee on Thursday.

ICE notified Abrego Garcia’s lawyers that he may be deported to Uganda in “no less than 72 hours” and must check in with an agent at the Baltimore field office on Monday, according to documents obtained by Fox News.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes placed Abrego Garcia in his brother’s custody as a third-party custodian ahead of trial after he was released from jail on Friday. Abrego Garcia must wear an electronic monitoring device check in with Pretrial Services in Maryland and report there by 10 a.m. on Monday.

The Salvadoran national, who is a suspected MS-13 gang member, was initially deported to his home country of El Salvador earlier this year. Dubbed a “Maryland Man” by a number of mainstream media outlets and Democrat lawmakers, Abrego Garcia was ultimately returned due to a 2019 immigration order ruling that he could be subjected to retaliation from gangs in El Salvador.

Once back in the United States, he was immediately hit with human trafficking charges in connection with a 2022 traffic stop in 2022.

The “Maryland Man” was pulled over while driving an SUV belonging to Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes, another illegal alien, who confessed to participating in human smuggling across the U.S.-Mexico border in 2020.

In 2022, the Biden Administration flagged Abrego Garcia as a “suspect alien” who was possibly involved in “human smuggling/trafficking” after the traffic stop raised suspicions from a Tennessee state trooper, according to internal DHS documents shared with Just The News. DHS also logged a record of the 2022 traffic stop shortly after the incident in order to keep tabs on Abrego Garcia.

The Salvadoran national was driving a black 2001 Chevrolet Suburban and said he was transporting his passengers to Maryland from Texas for construction work. Police had doubts over the claim, however, as they did not find any luggage in the vehicle after conducing a search,

DHS documents identified Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes as the owner of the vehicle. Upon questioning, Abrego Garcia told officers that Reyes was his boss.

Documents reveal that the SUV was flagged separately by the Homeland Security Investigations Baltimore field office as belonging to a target they suspected of human trafficking or smuggling, Just The News reported.

“Vehicle is used by HSI Baltimore target in human smuggling/trafficking operation. Vehicle makes trips to southern border to pick up non-citizens,” a DHS memo reads. The memo further instructs law enforcement officers to contact the Baltimore HSI office if the vehicle is encountered.

In 2020, Hernandez Reyes pleaded guilty to smuggling fellow illegal aliens into the United States. Hernandez Reyes was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Mississippi, where he was transporting illegal aliens from El Salvador, Mexico and Honduras, DHS records show.

Three of the passengers—citizens of Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras—were determined to have been previously deported from the United States and had illegally returned, the Justice Department said. They were charged with unlawful reentry to the United States.

When a Tennessee state trooper stopped Abrego Garcia in 2022 for driving erratically and speeding, he was found to be driving an SUV filled with people coming from Houston, Texas. Abrego Garcia’s expired driver’s license and lack of luggage in the car led the state trooper to suspect smuggling or trafficking was involved, DHS records show.

The Trump Administration criticized Abrego Garcia’s release from prison on Friday, with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem describing him as a “monster” released by “activist liberal judges.”

“We will not stop fighting till this Salvadoran man faces justice and is OUT of our country,” Noem posted on X. Abrego Garcia has pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against him.
