Legendary Guitarist Shot In Las Vegas
In a shocking incident early Tuesday morning in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jake E. Lee, the distinguished guitarist known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, was shot multiple times. Despite the seriousness of the event, representatives for Lee have stated that he is expected to fully recover.
In a statement released to Fox News, a representative noted, “As confirmed by management, legendary rock guitarist Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands, Red Dragon Cartel) was shot multiple times early this morning in a Las Vegas, NV street shooting.”
Continuing the update, the rep added, “Lee is fully conscious and doing well in an intensive care unit at a Las Vegas hospital. He is expected to fully recover.” The statement continued, “Las Vegas authorities believe the shooting was completely random and occurred while Lee took his dog out for a walk in the early morning hours. As the incident is under police investigation, no further comments will be forthcoming. Lee and his family appreciate respecting their privacy at this time.”
Lee started his music career in the early 1980s, playing in local bands before joining the metal band Ratt for a brief period. He didn’t record any albums with Ratt but did contribute to the songwriting for some of their early material.
Lee joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band in 1983 after the departure of guitarist Randy Rhoads. Lee was instrumental in the writing and recording of the albums Bark at the Moon (1983) and The Ultimate Sin (1986). He co-wrote much of the material on these albums, although he often wasn’t credited properly for his contributions, which later became a point of contention. After his time with Ozzy Osbourne, Lee formed the band Badlands in the late 1980s with vocalist Ray Gillen.
Badlands released their self-titled debut album in 1989, which was followed by Voodoo Highway in 1991 and Dusk in 1998. The band was known for their bluesy hard rock style, and they received critical acclaim, though commercial success was more limited.
After Badlands disbanded, Jake E. Lee was mostly out of the public eye for several years, working on music sporadically. He returned with a new project called Red Dragon Cartel in 2014. The band released its self-titled debut album in January 2014, which featured guest appearances from several notable musicians. They followed up with their second album, Patina, in 2018. Jake E. Lee is respected in the rock and metal communities for his distinctive guitar playing and tone.
His style blends elements of hard rock, blues, and metal, and he is known for his technical skill and unique vibrato. Despite controversies over songwriting credits and royalties, his contributions to the albums with Ozzy Osbourne are particularly celebrated, and he remains an influential figure in the guitar world.
