Melania Shares Heartwarming Moments With Cancer-Stricken Kids
First Lady Melania Trump visited with some of the sickest children in the nation’s capital on Thursday as they worked on arts and crafts projects ahead of their hospital’s Fourth of July celebration.
The first lady met with patients and caregivers at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, taking the hands of young ones as they guided her through the hallways where they receive treatment and seek solace in a “healing garden” dedicated by Melania Trump during her husband’s first administration.
An impromptu arts and crafts project was overtaken by Melania, who painted a red heart on a rock while several kids played with stretchy slime nearby.
“Wow, that’s a big slime!” she remarked while watching the children stretch the goo.
Handouts emblazoned with the first lady’s “Be Best” initiative were passed around, including gift bags with blankets, teddy bears, and t-shirts.
In between activities, Melania quizzed the kids on their favorite sports. One replied football, another responded soccer, and a third said golf.
She asked about the group’s favorite songs before taking an informal poll on which desserts they most prefer. Hands shot up across the room when the options for chocolate and ice cream were suggested.
“I like it too,” she said, per the AP.

Aides confirmed that Melania met privately with heart and kidney patients and their families during her visit, The Hill reports.
The first lady and President Trump are scheduled to attend a military family picnic at the White House and watch fireworks on Independence Day. They will depart for the president’s New Jersey residence for the remainder of the weekend.
Although Melania has not maintained the same level of public appearances in the second Trump administration, she has appeared on her own terms, as when she arrived for pre-inaugural ceremonies in an “elegant” ensemble from designer Adam Lippes.
She dipped her feet back into policy waters in March, throwing her support behind legislation to outlaw revenge porn and deepfake AI imagery.
“I’m here with you today with a common goal, to protect our youth from online harm,” she said during a press conference advocating for the “Take It Down Act,” which was passed into law earlier this year.
“The widespread presence of abusive behavior in the digital domain affects the daily lives of our children, families, and communities. Addressing this issue is essential for fostering a safe and supportive environment for our young people.”
Still, her activities haven’t stopped the first lady from having a political target put on her back after returning to the White House.
“Squad” Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) used part of a heated House hearing last week to mock Melania’s modeling career, going so far as to suggest there was no way she could have earned the coveted “Einstein visa.”
The online backlash was swift as fans of the first lady rose to her defense and denounced Crockett’s unbecoming remarks.
“Can Jasmine Crockett speak 5 Languages like Melania? NO! so she can just close her mouth,” one user raged on social media.
