Minnesotans Deliver One Final Blow To Tim Walz As Disgraced Governor’s Tenure Winds Down

Tim Walz is heading toward the end of his time in office with a major political problem: Minnesota voters now view him less favorably than President Trump.

A new Mason-Dixon poll found that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who announced he will not seek re-election and leaves office in January, has a 39% approval rating and a 53% disapproval rating, with 8% undecided.

The survey of 800 registered Minnesota voters likely to cast ballots in November was conducted through live telephone interviews from June 8-10. The results mark the lowest approval numbers of Walz’s six years in office.

The poll also highlighted growing concern over fraud, an issue that has dogged the Democratic governor as federal investigations, raids, and arrests have expanded across the state over the past year.

When asked which party they trust more to address fraud, 45% of respondents chose Republicans, compared with 38% who picked Democrats. Another 14% said neither party.

Trump, meanwhile, posted a 41% approval rating in Minnesota in the same survey, a development that quickly caught conservatives’ attention.

“Tim Walz has a lower approval rating than President Trump in deep blue Minnesota right now,” Townhall columnist Dustin Grage posted on X. “That’s how toxic the fraud has become for Democrats.”

The Trump administration has devoted significant attention to Minnesota, deploying a federal fraud task force that has led to multiple investigations and arrests as officials probe how the schemes expanded so rapidly.

Another issue dividing voters is Minnesota’s new state flag, which Walz supported. According to the poll, half of respondents disapprove of the redesign.

The flag has become a cultural flashpoint amid fallout from one of the largest fraud scandals in U.S. history, much of which involved members of the Somali immigrant community. The new design was approved in 2023 by a 13-member commission established by the Democrat-controlled Legislature. Critics have blasted the flag as overly simplistic, with some arguing it resembles Somalia’s national flag.

“Two issues that unite a majority of Minnesotans are the rejection of Tim Walz and his failed policies and our hatred for the Minnesota Somali state flag,” Republican House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who represents Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, told Fox News Digital. “The flag is an embarrassment and good on the cities who are actively removing it from their city halls and communities.”

“President Trump is more popular than Tim Walz in his home state because Minnesotans are sick and tired of Walz siding with illegal aliens and Somali fraudsters over his hardworking, taxpaying constituents.” he continued. “The legacy of Tim Walz will be the fires that destroyed Minneapolis, the fraud that he allowed to be stolen under his watch, and his failures that have harmed our great state.”

The fraud controversy appears to have taken a steep toll on Walz’s standing. His approval rating has fallen 10 points over the past year as headlines surrounding the scandal have continued to dominate.

Partisan divisions remain sharp. Just 1% of Republicans approve of the job Walz is doing, while 73% of Democrats and 32% of independents say they support his performance.
