MSNBC Host Under Fire For ‘Repulsive’ Comments On Young Cancer Survivor Honored By Trump
“Repulsive” comments by an MSNBC host have gone viral after she used the honorary appointing of a young cancer patient to the U.S. Secret Service to offer him a backhanded wish for a long life and successful career in public safety.
Nicole Wallace, who hosts the network’s “Deadline” program, joined Rachel Maddow to rebut President Donald Trump’s speech before Congress Tuesday night and ridicule his decision to appoint DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer, an honorary member of the department. The young man was invited to witness Trump’s historic speech and celebrated with Republican applause while standing alongside his father in the U.S. House balcony.
But to Wallace, the heartwarming moment was just another opportunity to remind viewers about J6 and Trump’s culpability.
“I let myself feel joy about DJ,” Wallace started before going dark. “And I hope he’s alive for another, you know, ninety-five years, right? And I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He knows what he wants to do.”
Even if young DJ survives brain cancer, he may still find himself confronted by an angry MAGA mob looking to trample or strangle him on their way to overthrowing the government, she predicted.
“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer. But I hope he never has to defend the U.S. Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters. And if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide. And I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the ones who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people,” she said.
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk summed up his reaction to Wallace. “This is genuinely the most repulsive comment I’ve heard in a very long time from anyone on television,” he wrote on X. “Disgusting.”
The popular conservative account Libs of TikTok said much the same, denouncing Wallace’s comments as “sickening.”
Wallace “needs to be fired for saying she hopes a 13-year-old cancer patient doesn’t kill himself,” another wrote.

Other guests invited by President Trump to witness his speech included the family of Laken Riley, the 22-year-old nursing student killed by an illegal immigrant, and Payton McNabb, a high school volleyball athlete injured by a transgender opponent. Democrats sat largely silent as the president recognized each of them.
But their silence was a virtue compared to many of the other outbursts taking place Tuesday night. Scores of Democrats held up small circular signs with catchphrases like “save Medicaid” and “no kings live here,” a feeble attempt at opposition that even allies said fell flat.
Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was escorted from the chamber by security after standing up to shout at Trump and wave his cane. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said the Texas Democrat will likely be formally censured by the body later this week.
Many of their callouts were “very silly, and unserious, but I can’t help but feel some level of empathy for them,” one Democratic strategist told Politico. “I’m sure they feel like they have to do something, anything … That wasn’t it.”
