Nancy Mace Yells ‘Tranny’ During Committee Hearing, Democrat Rep. Blows Up

Tensions erupted in a House Oversight Committee hearing as Rep. Nancy Mace, R-(SC), refused to back down after using a term deemed offensive by Democrats to describe transgender individuals. The fiery exchange unfolded when Rep. Gerry Connolly, (D-VA), took issue with Mace’s remarks over the word “tranny.”

“The gentlelady has used a phrase that is considered a slur in the LGBTQ community and the transgender community. Let me please finish without interruption.” Connolly scolded, urging the committee to enforce decorum.

Mace, however, remained defiant, responding boldly, “Tranny! Tranny! Tranny—I don’t really care! You want penises in women’s bathrooms and I’m not going to have it. No thank you!”

“To me, a slur is a slur, and here in the committee, a level of decorum requires us to try consciously to avoid slurs.” Connolly insisted. “We ought not to be engaged in offending human beings who are our fellow citizens.” He pushed further demanding that the chairman formally address Mace’s remarks.

“Mr. Chairman, I’m not going to be counseled by a man over men and women’s spaces or men who have mental health issues dressing as women,” Mace shot back. “I’m not being counseled by some guy.”

“The inquiry is about decorum. Decorum is at the discretion of the Chair,” said Chairman James Comer (R-KY). “I will be honest with the Ranking Member… I’m not up to date on my politically correct LGBTQ terminology.

“We’ll look into that and get back with you on that,” Comer said, somewhat amused.

The exchange comes as Mace continues to champion legislation aimed at protecting women’s spaces from policies that allow biological males to enter female-only areas. Late last year in November, she introduced a bill to safeguard women’s facilities across Capitol Hill and federal government spaces, an effort that gained traction after the election of Rep. Sarah McBride, (D-DE), the first openly transgender member of Congress.

“If that being a feminist makes me an extremist, I’m totally here for it,” Mace told reporters. When asked if the effort was in direct response to McBride’s election, Mace did not hesitate. “Yes, and absolutely, and then some,” she said at the time.

“I’m not going to stand for a man, someone with a penis is in the women’s locker room, that’s not okay. And I’m a victim of abuse myself, I’m a rape survivor, I have PTSD from the abuse I’ve suffered at the hands of a man. And I know how vulnerable women and girls are in private spaces.” She finished, “I will be there fighting you every step of the way.”

More recently, Mace clashed with Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) during a hearing over civil rights and transgender issues. Crockett pushed for reinstating a civil rights subcommittee and accused Mace of fear-mongering on transgender topics, prompting a fiery exchange.

“Somebody’s campaign coffers are struggling right now,” Crockett jabbed. “So she’s going to keep saying ‘trans, trans, trans,’ so that people will feel threatened. Child, listen.”

Mace, visibly irritated, snapped back. “I am no child! Do not call me a child. I am no child! I am a grown woman of 47 years old… If you want to take it outside, we can.”
