NASA Nuclear Engineer Found Dead In Burned Tesla As Mystery Of Missing Scientists Deepens

A NASA-linked engineer who worked on nuclear propulsion projects was found dead inside his burned Tesla after a violent crash in Alabama, leaving his body so badly charred it was unrecognizable, according to a new Fox News report.

Joshua LeBlanc, 29, died July 22, 2025, in Huntsville after his vehicle collided with a guardrail, then slammed into several trees before bursting into flames, authorities told Fox News.

The case raised alarms with his family almost immediately. They reported him missing at 4:32 a.m. that day after LeBlanc failed to show up for work and, unusually, stopped communicating. They also said he left his phone and wallet at home, fueling fears he may have been abducted.

Investigators later reviewed Tesla Sentry Mode data that showed LeBlanc’s vehicle sitting at the Huntsville airport for about four hours on the morning of his death. His family said a trip west was not part of his plan for the day.

The burned-out Tesla was located later that afternoon, around 2:45 p.m., according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. LeBlanc’s remains were so badly burned that authorities confirmed his identity three days later after transport to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

LeBlanc’s résumé was notable for his age. His LinkedIn profile states he worked at NASA for more than five years and served as a team lead for NASA’s Space Nuclear Propulsion (SNP) Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Maturation.

He later became a team lead on NASA’s Demonstration Rocket for Agile Cislunar Operation (DRACO), a nuclear thermal propulsion engine, Fox News reported. NASA has said space nuclear propulsion technology is designed to enable faster, more capable transportation for future deep-space missions.

LeBlanc’s death is now being discussed alongside a broader list of recent deaths and disappearances involving people tied to nuclear science, aerospace work and sensitive research. Officials have not publicly linked the cases.
