Nashville Police Hero Wasn’t Supposed to be in School’s Area, “Call it Fate or God”
Nashville Police Officer Rex Engelbert shared his firsthand account of stopping shooter, Audrey Hale, during a news conference this week. Engelbert’s quick and brave actions helped put an end to the violence, resulting in the death of 28-year-old transgender shooter Audrey Hale.
When body-cam footage was released after the Covenant Christian School tragedy, many praised Engelbert and Nashville PD for their swift and effective actions. However, it turns out Engelbert wasn’t even supposed to be in that district at the time.
“I guess I hadn’t finished my coffee and I wanted to complete some administrative tasks. So I wanted to go to the Metro Police Academy,” Engelbert explained.
“I had some business to attend to there. En route there, that put me in the midtown sector. sector, so I really had no business being where I was. I think you can call it fate or God or whatever you want, but I can’t count on both my hands the irregularities that put me in that position when a call for service came out for an act of deadly aggression at a school.”
