National Dems Caught Funding ‘Fake Independent’ Senate Candidate In Red State
Labor Union leader Dan Osborn, who is currently running for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, has campaigned on being an “independent” and has vowed to caucus with neither of the two major political parties should he be elected. His “independent” candidacy has been thrown into doubt upon review of his financial disclosure forms, however.
Osborn has received endorsements from a number of prominent Nebraska Democrats and is largely funding his campaign through ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s main fundraising platform, according to a report from Fox News. He has also received donations from several national Democrat leaders and party-affiliated political action committees.
Among the donors to Osborn’s campaign is Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), as well as super PAC’s that previously served former Democrat Senators Bob Kerrey and Jon Tester. Democracy Summer, a leadership PAC founded by far-left U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), also donated $2,000.
The latest FEC filings, which were released last week, indicate that Osborn continues to receive funding from The People United, a left-wing super PAC that has supported far-left ‘Squad’ representatives like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Summer Lee and Ilhan Omar.

“As an independent, I’ll be uniquely positioned to bring together a majority to get it done,” Osborn’s “Where I Stand” section on his campaign’s official website says on the topic of illegal immigration and border security. “I believe we all have more in common with each other than we do with the partisans who run Washington.”
Osborn has attempted to cultivate a middle of the road, “moderate” image as he seeks to unseat Republican Senator Pete Ricketts. “Dan Osborn is bought and paid for by his liberal, out-of-state, coastal donors,” a Ricketts campaign spokesman said after Osborn announced his Senate run.
In 2024, the “nonpartisan” candidate came within single digits of defeating Senator Deb Fischer. During that failed campaign, he also faced accusations of being a Democrat in disguise due to revealing campaign finances.
Osborn received several $5,000 donations from the leadership PACs of Democratic senators Chuck Schumer of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, among others. Warren’s Senate campaign also donated another $2,000 to Osborn last year, Fox News reported.
“Elizabeth Warren is rated as the most far-left politician in Washington,” Ricketts told the outlet. “She supports the Green New Deal, taxpayer benefits for illegals and abolishing private healthcare. By accepting campaign funds from Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer and Bob Kerrey, Dan Osborn has shown Nebraska voters exactly who he will side with in the Senate: The same Democrats funding his fake independent campaign.”
