NBA Legend Gilbert Arenas’ Son Placed Into Coma After Tragic Car Crash
Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and one of the nation’s top high school basketball prospects, has been hospitalized and placed into a medically induced coma following a devastating car accident early Thursday morning.
The 18-year-old five-star recruit and USC commit was reportedly behind the wheel of a Tesla Cybertruck when it struck a tree and a fire hydrant in Los Angeles, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Arenas was rushed to the hospital with severe smoke inhalation but did not suffer any broken bones.
As a precaution, doctors placed him into a coma to aid in his recovery. Sources told ESPN that Arenas is in stable condition, a detail later confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Arenas, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying talents in the class of 2025, reclassified from 2026 earlier this year and committed to USC in January, choosing the Trojans over powerhouse programs including Kentucky, Kansas, and Arizona.
Standing 6’6″ and weighing nearly 200 pounds, the Chatsworth High School shooting guard made headlines this season after averaging more than 30 points per game and earning a spot in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game.

TMZ Sports reported the crash left the Cybertruck completely wrecked and charred. While the exact cause of the accident remains unknown, images from the scene show the car mangled beyond recognition along the roadside.
According to officials, emergency crews responded to a call at 4:55 AM involving a “trapped patient.” However, when first responders arrived, all occupants had already exited the vehicle. The front of the car had reportedly caught fire, and an individual—described as approximately 18 years old—was transported to a nearby hospital in “serious condition.”
Arenas recently revealed that he landed a sponsorship deal with Adidas.
Gilbert Arenas, who starred for the Washington Wizards during his NBA career, has not yet issued a public statement. Drafted 31st overall by the Golden State Warriors in 2001, Arenas quickly rose to prominence and found his greatest success with the Washington Wizards, where he earned the nickname “Agent Zero” for his jersey number and reputation for clutch performances.
He was a three-time NBA All-Star (2005–2007), a three-time All-NBA Team selection, and the 2003 NBA Most Improved Player. Over the course of his career, Arenas averaged 20.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game across 552 games.
After retiring, Arenas transitioned into media and broadcasting. He hosts a podcast called “Gil’s Arena,” where he discusses basketball topics with a candid style.
The former NBA star is a father of five. He shares four children with ex-partner Laura Govan — daughters Izela (19) and Hamiley (14), along with sons Alijah (18) and Aloni (13). Arenas also has a 10-year-old daughter, Gia, with former girlfriend Lindsay Faulk.
