NEW: Armed Citizen Heroically Stopped Walmart Stabbing Suspect
Dramatic video from the stabbing attack that rocked a Michigan Walmart location on Saturday shows an armed citizen confronting the suspect after he stabbed 11 people in what is being described as a targeted, unprovoked attack.
The brave bystander, identified by family members as Marine veteran Derrick Perry can be seen aiming a handgun at the knife-wielding madman while ordering him to drop his weapon in the store’s parking lot. The incident took place in Traverse City, located about 255 miles northwest of Detroit.
In the harrowing footage, which was filmed from another bystander’s mobile phone, Perry can be heard shouting down the assailant while aiming his own weapon.“Drop it! Throw the knife now. Throw it away!” the Marine veteran can be heard shouting.
Additional bystanders standing around Perry could also be seen using shopping carts to keep the attacker back. The camera then pans to the Walmart entrance, where one of the victims of the stabbing attack is seen lying on the ground.
Several other brave bystanders eventually surrounded the assailant and ordered him to lay on the ground before the video cut off.
On Sunday, authorities identified the suspect as Bradford James Gille, 42. He is currently facing 11 counts of assault with intent to murder, in addition to terrorism-related offenses.
The victims range between the ages of 29 to 85, with six of them over 60, Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea told reporters. Thankfully, they are all expected to survive.
The National Association For Gun Rights praised Perry for saving lives by acting as a “good guy with a gun.”
“Meet Derrick Perry, the good guy with a gun who stepped in to stop the Walmart stabbing suspect in Traverse City, Michigan, and held him until police arrived,” the organization said in an X post. “This is the kind of courage that deserves recognition. Armed and prepared citizens save lives.”
Perry’s daughter also chimed in with a Facebook post, describing her heroic father’s actions as a “proud daughter moment.”

The attack began shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, when the attacker began stabbing shoppers and staff members at random. Six were left in a critical condition and five in a serious condition, but by Sunday, just four were in a serious condition and seven in a fair condition, according to a report from the New York Post.
Police said the suspect has a history of violent crime and drug use.
