NEW: Armed Man Posing As Law Enforcement Detained At Kirk Memorial Site
An armed man posing as a law enforcement officer was detained at an Arizona stadium that is set to host a massive public memorial service for the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated while speaking with college students on the Utah Valley University campus on September 10.
The man entered State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Friday and was “exhibiting suspicious” behavior, a Secret Service spokesperson said in a statement Saturday. The spokesperson added that the man, whose identity has not been revealed to the public as of this report, was posing as law enforcement and was armed.
“The individual is not a member of authorized law enforcement working the event and is currently in custody,” the spokesperson said. “The U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement are investigating the circumstances as to why he was at the location.”
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told Fox News that the man was detained “in the stadium, but it was prior to the setup of any secure perimeter.” He was found to be carrying a gun and a knife, the Washington Post reported.
The individual told Secret Service agents that he was at the site to provide private security and presented “inactive law enforcement credentials,” an unnamed Secret Service official further told the outlet.

The memorial service is expected to draw upwards of 100,000 attendees from across the country, including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. The venue has the capacity to host 63,400 people and can accommodate up to 73,000 for “mega-events,” according to its website. Due to the massive influx of people, overflow areas are being set up around the stadium and in other areas across Phoenix.
A senior administration official confirmed to Fox News on Friday that federal law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, distributed a report Thursday warning that they are monitoring “several threats of unknown credibility” against Trump, Vice President JD Vance and others planning to attend Kirk’s memorial service.
The assessment noted that the memorial service could be an attractive target for extremist groups, or lone wolf actors, due to elevated media coverage.
“The Secret Service is never going to underestimate the potential threats of these events,” said veteran Secret Service agent Tim Miller, who now heads up Lionheart International Services Group that provides security support and training. “They are going to provide exactly the amount of security required to ensure the highest level of safety, especially given that the event where Charlie Kirk died was an outdoor event,” Miller told Fox News.
President Donald Trump is expected to deliver remarks at the memorial service.
“It’s going to be big,” Trump told reporters Monday. “I’m going to be at the stadium, and I guess I’ll say a few words. I don’t know, but I guess I will, but I knew him very well. He was an amazing guy. He was all about young people and getting them started.”
