NEW: Biden Family Member Files For Divorce

Former President Joe Biden’s daughter has filed for divorce from her husband, Dr. Howard Krein, who has been linked to allegations of influence peddling and corruption relating to the former first family.

Ashley Biden made the filing in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on Monday. On the same day, the former first daughter posted an Instagram Story that “featured a photo of her walking through a park and flashing a thumbs-up, and was set to the song ‘Freedom’ by Beyoncé,” according to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, which first reported the divorce.

She also posted a quote that read: “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”

Divorce records are made publicly available in Philadelphia, though reasons for the split have not been disclosed as of this report. Biden and Krein had been married for 13 years after tying the knot in Greenville, Delaware back in 2012.

The couple was reportedly set up by Ashley’s late brother, Beau, who died after a battle with cancer in 2015.

Krein proposed after receiving permission from “Pops” in 2011, according to a report from People magazine at the time. “This is the right guy,” said Biden, who was then serving as vice president. “And he’s getting a helluva woman.”

While Ashley Biden has largely stayed out of the national spotlight, she did briefly mention her recent wedding when she was introduced by her father at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. “At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she told the crowd.

“He was riding around in his John Deere 4-wheeler, fixing the place settings, arranging the plants, and by the way, he was very emotional.”

Krein, 59, works as an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. The couple had been living in Philadelphia prior to their divorce.

Back in October of 2020, Breitbart News reported that Krein was advising the Biden Campaign on COVID-19 strategy while also investing in coronavirus-response companies as he was the chief medical officer at StartUp Health. The company largely focuses on “moonshot” investments in the healthcare industry that had close ties to the Obama Administration while Joe Biden was serving as vice president.

Ashley Biden has also been linked to her family’s questionable business practices. In 2023, reports emerged that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation donated $250,000 to Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce, a women’s wellness center in Philadelphia founded by the president’s daughter.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), a conservative watchdog group, accused the Philadelphia-based organization, which describes itself as a “trauma-informed wellness center,” of violating financial reporting regulations after failure to report. Ashley Biden’s nonprofit failed to report the $250,000 donation from Archewell in its 2023 tax filings, prompting the NLPC to file an IRS complaint.

Ashley was most recently in the news when President Donald Trump announced that she and her brother, Hunter, would no longer be recieving Secret Service protection.
