An off-duty Border Patrol agent remains hospitalized after he was shot in the face by an illegal alien — a man with felony convictions who was released under the Biden Administration — in New York City.

The attack occurred just before midnight Saturday, when the agent, currently identified only as a 42-year-old man, and a female companion were sitting on a rock along the Hudson River in Fort Washington Park in Manhattan. Surveillance camera footage of the incident shows two men pulling up on a moped before parking after they spotted the victims.

One of the men then jumped off the moped and approached the victims before shooting the agent in the face. The Border Patrol agent managed to return fire, wounding one of the suspects in the chest before he jumped back on the moped with the other assailant and sped off.

The agent was shot in the face and the arm as a result of the attack, according to the New York Police Department. A motive for the shooting remains unclear, though investigators are currently probing the possibility that the assailants were attempting a robbery.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was recovering from his injuries on Sunday and is expected to survive, police said.

According to a report from the New York Post, the suspect who shot the agent has been identified as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a 21-year-old Dominican national with a lengthy rap sheet in New York as well as a deportation order. Despite his extensive criminal record, he was released after each arrest.

Mora illegally entered the United States through the Southern Border under the Biden Administration, the Department of Homeland Security announced Sunday. He was released due to lack of detention space in April 2023 and given a notice to appear before an immigration judge. He never showed up to his scheduled court appearance.

Mora was taken into custody after he walked into an area hospital with gunshot wounds. The federal agent was undergoing surgery as of Sunday afternoon and is in stable condition, DHS said.

At the time of his arrest for the shooting, he was wanted on kidnapping and weapons charges out of Massachusetts, NYPD sources told the New York Post.

President Donald Trump reacted with fury to the latest attack on a Border Patrol agent, which comes just two weeks after a gunman ambushed agents outside a facility in McAllen, Texas.

“Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden. He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage.”

The post continued, “The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted in that we cannot take a chance that they are able to come back. That’s how evil and dangerous they are!”
