NEW: Charlie Kirk’s Security Chief Rips UVU Campus Police Over Protection Protocols
Brian Harpole, security chief for the late Charlie Kirk, is claiming that the Utah Valley University campus police department failed to secure surrounding rooftops after telling him, “I got you covered,” days before the Turning Point USA founder, was assassinated.
Harpole is a veteran law enforcement officer and private security professional with extensive experience in tactical operations, executive protection, and risk management. He served as a police officer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas for 14 years, holding roles in patrol, criminal and narcotics interdiction, tactical units, bicycle patrols, training, and administration
After retiring from law enforcement, he started working in private security and in 2022, founded Integrity Security Solutions (also known as Rockhouse Integrity Group), a firm emphasizing “high-integrity personnel selection and multi-layered security strategies.”
The firm was contracted to provide security for Kirk starting in 2023, replacing Shaffer Security Group, which had handled security for Turning Point USA events since 2015.
During a recent appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show,Harpole told the titular host that he and his team had raised concerns about rooftop exposure and drone restrictions in the days leading up to the September 10 assassination.
“We had concerns with rooftops. I mean, we got a location that we’re not keen with. We know what our responsibility is, we know what our statutory authority is, we know that we can’t go up and set up our guys in cyber observer positions,” Harpole explained.
The security chief further stated that on September 8, he reached out to the UVU Campus Police chief and warned him of threats posed by exposed rooftops that could be accessed by students. He backed up his claims by sharing a screenshot of a conversation he had UVU Police Chief Jeff Long.
“Hello, Chief Long – We received this message today from the student group. ‘There is student roof access pretty close to where CK will be set up at Utah Valley (the Sorensen Student center has a couple stair cases that go up to the walkways on the roof),'” Harpole wrote, to which Long replied by asking if he was requesting access to the roof.
“I was told students have access above us, if this is true, it would be nice to either have it controlled access or allow one of my guys to be there as well. If possible,” Harpole followed up, at which point Long responded with, “I got you covered.”
“What else am I to do when a command level person from an accredited police department says, ‘I’ve got this area’?” Harpole told Ryan, adding, “We’ve called him. He’s never called us back.”
“And why this hadn’t come out, and why he won’t stand up like a man and admit this, I don’t know,” the Integrity Security Solutions founder added. “But he’s watching a bunch of men lose their careers and he’s okay with it.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Harpole said he had also raised concerns about drone restrictions.
“I spent thousands of dollars on drones last year and got the guys’ licenses, but if the area lies in the Provo, Utah airspace, I can’t fly it. That’s a 107B, we can’t break the rules,” he said. The security chief further noted that the Orem Police Department could have flown drones over the site, but were never contacted by campus police for assistance.

The accused shooter, Tyler James Robinson, allegedly fired from a rooftop position about 150 yards away from Kirk’s podium using a .30-06 bolt-action rifle. According to prosecutors, Robinson was able to get down from the rooftop before discarding the murder weapon in a wooded area just off campus.
He faces charges including aggravated murder, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty. Evidence includes DNA matches on the rifle and screwdriver left at the scene, a pre-shooting note to his transgender roommate stating “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it,” and text messages post-shooting expressing hatred toward Kirk’s views.
