NEW: Comer Drops Bombshell Report Claiming FEMA Views Trump Supporters As ‘Domestic Extremists’

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has alleged that a FEMA contractor pressured a disabled veteran’s family in Georgia to remove pro-Trump campaign materials from their home. According to Comer, the contractor suggested that FEMA supervisors regard Trump supporters as “domestic terrorists.”

The revelation came via a whistleblower who contacted Comer’s staff, alleging the incident occurred in early October. The elderly homeowners reportedly complied, fearing it might jeopardize their ability to receive disaster relief aid. However, despite removing the signs, FEMA has not returned to assist the family, Comer said.

“The elderly homeowners were so frightened by this and afraid that they would not recover their loss that they removed the signs,” Comer wrote on X. “Nevertheless, FEMA has not returned to their residence. This took place not in Florida, but Georgia.”

This follows heightened scrutiny of FEMA’s disaster relief efforts. On Tuesday, Comer opened a hearing on the agency’s operations, questioning whether this incident points to a deeper, systemic problem. While no direct evidence has yet surfaced implicating FEMA leadership, Comer said his committee would investigate whether this incident is indicative of a broader cultural bias within the agency.

Comer also tied the incident to a larger critique of a “rogue” federal workforce that undermines the policies of duly elected officials. He pledged to work with the incoming Trump administration to implement reforms aimed at rooting out such behavior.

“In the wake of Hurricane Milton, at least one FEMA official engaged in political discrimination against supporters of President Trump,” Comer said during Tuesday’s hearing. “This official ordered employees to discriminate against vulnerable Americans affected by a hurricane when they needed assistance the most.”

“This same employee alleged on TV that this was not an isolated event, and that FEMA essentially treats the homes of President Trump’s supporters as if they were homes of people with vicious dogs.” Comer alleged, “We only know this because one whistleblower was brave enough to come forward. But others knew about this and said nothing.”

In early November, reports emerged that a FEMA supervisor, Marn’i Washington, instructed relief teams to avoid homes displaying pro-Trump signs during Hurricane Milton recovery operations in Lake Placid, Florida. This directive led to at least 20 homes being bypassed. FEMA responded by terminating Washington and initiating an investigation into the incident.

Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody, initiated a lawsuit against FEMA, claiming that the agency engaged in a conspiracy to infringe upon the civil rights of Trump supporters by selectively withholding disaster relief after hurricanes Helene and Milton struck. The lawsuit demands compensation for homeowners who were affected and has received backing from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

In response to the lawsuit, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell appeared before the House Oversight Committee where she refuted claims of widespread political bias within the agency. While she confirmed an isolated case involving an individual in Washington, Criswell supported a full investigation by the Office of the Inspector General to ensure the agency operates with transparency and accountability.

Congress is currently evaluating a $98 billion disaster relief funding proposal submitted by President Biden, which includes a $40 billion allocation for FEMA. The request has sparked debate among lawmakers, especially Republicans, who are raising concerns about possible biases within FEMA. These concerns have prompted calls for thorough investigations to guarantee that the agency’s disaster response efforts remain fair and unbiased.
