NEW: Dan Bongino To Resign On One Major Condition
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is reportedly prepared to resign unless Attorney General Pam Bondi is removed from her post, according to sources who spoke to The Daily Wire. The internal turmoil, which has boiled over in recent days, stems from a growing dispute over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and the public messaging surrounding them.
The rift reportedly began after the Department of Justice and FBI jointly released a memo in early July concluding there was no credible evidence of a so-called Epstein “client list” and no foul play in his 2019 jailhouse death. That conclusion came as a surprise to many in the conservative base, especially given Bondi’s previous hints that explosive revelations were imminent.
Bondi had for months suggested the files would expose powerful individuals connected to Epstein’s inner circle. Instead, the July memo offered a far more measured conclusion.
It dismissed speculation around a “list” and noted that newly released surveillance footage from Epstein’s jail cell showed no sign of outside entry. However, that footage reportedly includes a one-minute gap, which DOJ officials characterized as a “routine nightly reset” of the system.

The explanation did not sit well with critics—or with Bongino. According to reports, Bongino felt blindsided by the release and the way it was communicated to the public.
He and FBI Director Kash Patel reportedly confronted Bondi during a private White House meeting shortly after the memo was issued. A source familiar with the matter said the atmosphere was tense, with both Bongino and Patel expressing frustration about how the memo had been handled.
Bongino’s absence from FBI headquarters the Friday following the release only intensified speculation that a resignation was being considered. One unnamed source cited by The Daily Wire claimed Bongino had made it clear that “it’s either him or Pam Bondi.”

Bondi, for her part, has publicly defended the memo’s conclusions. She stated that the video gap in the surveillance footage was the result of a routine system update and dismissed suggestions of tampering or concealment.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche echoed her stance in a recent social media post, insisting there was no “rift” between the DOJ and the FBI and that the memo was a collaborative effort between all three top officials: Bondi, Bongino, and Patel.
Behind the scenes, however, tensions appear to remain unresolved.
The episode has caused much strain across social media, with many in the MAGA base now demanding Bondi’s removal. Once a popular figure in conservative circles and a former Florida attorney general, Bondi is now under intense scrutiny from the same grassroots supporters who once backed her.
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and longtime conservative media figure, was appointed to FBI leadership by President Trump in an effort to reform the bureau’s image and restore trust in federal law enforcement. His potential resignation would represent a significant blow to that effort and could further fracture the administration’s already strained relationship with its base.
As of now, there has been no formal comment from Bongino or the FBI. However, with pressure mounting and the MAGA world in an uproar, a decision may come sooner rather than later.
