NEW: Democrat Party’s Favorability Rating Crashes To Staggering New Low: ‘Absolutely Brutal’
The Democratic Party is facing a catastrophic decline in public perception, according to a new Quinnipiac University national poll. While political tides often shift, this latest survey reveals a collapse in favorability that has party insiders scrambling to regain ground ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The numbers paint a bleak picture for Democrats. According to the poll, only 31% of Americans hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party, while a staggering 57% view it unfavorably—a brutal 26-point deficit. This represents the worst favorability gap for Democrats since Quinnipiac began tracking the question in 2008.
While Democratic leaders attempt to downplay the numbers, the implications are undeniable. The party, still reeling from its defeat in the 2024 presidential election, now finds itself in a freefall with the American public. The Republican Party, by comparison, is riding a wave of renewed confidence, bolstered by President Donald Trump’s strong start to his second term.
Just weeks into his new term, President Trump’s approval rating stands at 46%—ten points higher than at the same point in his first administration. A clear majority of voters (54%) say they are optimistic about the next four years under his leadership, a sign that Americans are looking ahead with hope rather than dread.
Key policy decisions from the Trump administration have been widely supported, particularly on immigration. The Quinnipiac poll found that 60% of voters approve of sending U.S. troops to the southern border to enforce immigration law, a move Democrats have repeatedly opposed. Among Republicans, that number soars to 95%, with even 57% of independents backing the action.
“The huge deployment of boots on the ground is not to a dicey, far away war theater, but to the American border. And a majority of voters are just fine with that,” explained, Quinnipiac University polling analyst, Tim Malloy.
Another hot-button issue in the poll was the involvement of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk in the Trump administration. While Musk’s influence is championed by Republicans (73% approve), Democrats (90% disapprove), and independents lean negative at 56% disapproval. The divide highlights the ongoing battle between populist economic policies and progressive opposition to private-sector influence in government.
“Elon Musk, a powerful and pivotal player in Trump’s inner circle, gets a shaky assessment from voters, with women clearly more critical of him than men,” Malloy said.
In contrast to Trump’s growing popularity, former President Joe Biden’s reputation continues to sink. His controversial decision to issue preemptive pardons for five family members has been met with overwhelming disapproval—62% of voters oppose it, including 63% of independents. Even among Democrats, approval of the move sits at just 58%.
Moreover, voters have condemned Biden’s handling of the economy and foreign policy. A plurality (48%) believes his trade policies, particularly tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada, have hurt the U.S. economy, while only 42% say they have helped.
As the Democratic Party grapples with its historic favorability collapse, the challenge ahead is clear. With President Trump enjoying a second-term resurgence, Americans appear to be rejecting the radical leftward shift embraced by Biden and his party.
If these trends hold, Democrats could be looking at another devastating defeat in 2026. For now, the numbers tell the story.
