NEW: ‘Squad’ Dem Caught Admitting She Represents Guatemala Before America
Members of the notorious “Squad” rallied, of all places, in Mexico City over the weekend, where one pledged her allegiance to Guatemala rather than the United States.
Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (D-IL), who represents Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District, let a conference of North American lawmakers know that she is a “proud Guatemalan” first and an American citizen second. She has served in office since winning her first term in 2022.
“I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American,” she said in Spanish to cheers from the multicultural audience.
The Panamanian Congress conference was an opportunity for progressive lawmakers to share strategies across borders as they seek to push back against policies of the second Trump administration. However, Ramirez’s declaration may have pushed the internet’s tolerance for progressive pronunciations too far, as social media users questioned her allegiance to the U.S. and called for her deportation.
Born in Chicago to illegal immigrant parents, Ramirez is married to her husband, Boris Ramirez, a DACA recipient, and she ran for office in part on her pledge to secure legal status for so-called “Dreamers.”
On X, hashtags including #DeportDelia and #AmericanFirst underscored the backlash that was generated by her comments as users expressed outrage.
“She can, and should be kicked out of Congress immediately. Her allegiance is not to the United States of America, that in her own words,” one person wrote.
Liz Huston, a spokeswoman for the White House, called Ramirez’s comments “despicable” and accused her of putting Americans last.

WATCH:
Ramirez was not the only Squad member who drew headlines for her provocative comments over the weekend.
Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) raised eyebrows during a speech in Atlanta on Sunday, where she referred to President Trump as a “piece of s**t,” a sign that the expletive-ridden public discourse is here to stay. Democrats have taken to dropping f-bombs and other curse words in their public remarks as progressive voters urge them to take stronger stances against the administration.
Central to the dispute is Trump’s immigration policy, which Ramirez has denounced since the start of his second administration. She opposed the Big, Beautiful Bill, which injected approximately $170 million into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and she joined Democrats in rallying against Trump’s decision to send Marines and National Guardsmen to Los Angeles during immigration riots.
Ramirez will return home to the Chicago area, where Texas Democrats are hiding out as they seek to prevent their state legislature from having a quorum necessary to redistrict the state’s congressional lines, a shrewd political move that may add as many as five safe Republican seats in next year’s elections.
