New Details Emerge On Would-Be Trump Shooter’s Manifesto, Political Leanings
31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a Torrance, California resident who is currently facing charges in connection with Saturday’s shooting attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington D.C., reportedly left a detailed manifesto in which he detailed his hatred of the Trump Administration, Christians and his desire to assassinate senior Trump officials.
Allen was subdued at the scene after allegedly charging a security checkpoint while armed with a shotgun and multiple additional weapons. One Secret Service agent was struck by gunfire but sustained no serious injury due to a bulletproof vest.
After the president and senior cabinet officials were immediately evacuated, Allen was transported to an area hospital for questioning. FBI agents, in conjunction with local law enforcement, also executed a search warrant at Allen’s California home.
According to a senior U.S. official cited by CBS News, Allen left behind a written document described as a “manifesto” in his hotel room. The document stated that he wanted to target officials in the Trump administration, though no official transcript has been released as of this report.
Investigators recovered paper writings from the hotel room as part of their review of his motive. Allen also sent some of his writings to family members prior to the incident, one of whom alerted police upon receiving them.
A family member interviewed by investigators reported that Allen had made radical statements and frequently referenced a plan to do “something” to address issues with the world today. Authorities have also noted anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric on Allen’s social media accounts.
Relatives further indicated that Allen attended a “No Kings” protest in California and was part of a group called “The Wide Awakes,” CBS News reported. Details on his specific role or statements at the protest have not been disclosed by investigators as of this report.

Cole Tomas Allen worked as a part-time teacher and tutor prior to carrying out the attack
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told CNN that investigators believe Allen “was targeting members of the Trump administration.” He added that it appeared Allen “set out to target folks who work in the administration, likely including the president.”
Blanche further noted, based on preliminary information, that Allen “was intent on doing as much harm and as much damage as he could.” U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro echoed this assessment, stating, “It is clear, based upon what we know so far, that this individual was intent on doing as much harm and as much damage as he could.”
Both officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, adding that electronic devices, writings, and other evidence related to Allen is still being recovered and analyzed.
In addition, Blanche stated that Allen traveled by train from the Los Angeles area to Chicago and then onward to Washington, D.C. He then checked into a room on the 10th floor of the Washington Hilton hotel on Friday, April 24, the day before the dinner.
The shotgun he allegedly used was legally purchased in California in August 2025, and he also owned a semiautomatic pistol purchased in 2023.
Allen worked as a tutor and admissions counselor at C2 Education in Torrance, where he was named “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024. He also identified as an independent game developer, having created titles including one based on molecular chemistry and another top-down shooter game.
The suspected gunman was registered to vote with no party preference and made a single $25 political donation via ActBlue to a committee supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in 2024, according to a report from the Associated Press.
Allen is currently facing multiple federal charges, including one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. Additional charges are expected depending on the outcome of the investigation into his motive, intent, and premeditation.
He is scheduled for arraignment in federal court on Monday, April 27, with an indictment expected to follow.
