JUST IN: DJ Daniel Shares Heartwarming Moment With Melania Trump During WH Visit
DJ Daniel, the 13-year-old boy who became an overnight success story after defying the odds while battling brain cancer, had nothing but smiles for First Lady Melania Trump during a recent visit to the White House.
Interest in Daniel’s personal struggle skyrocketed after he was among a select number of guests invited by President Donald Trump to witness his speech last week before members of Congress. During his remarks, Trump singled out the young boy and appointed him an honorary member of the U.S. Secret Service, a heartwarming moment that saw an agent hug Daniel while his proud father looked on.
And although Democrats may not have applauded him and media figures made “repulsive” comments about his 15 minutes of fame, Daniel still enjoyed his visit to the White House, according to a new photo released by the first lady’s staff. In it, Melania hugs Daniel and cradles his head while the 13-year-old wraps his arms around her midsection, sporting his police uniform and a faint smile.
The internet immediately lit up with comments buoying the positive vibes for Daniel.
“Absolutely loving this,” a fan of Melania’s wrote on X while another replied, “She is so wonderful and I’m sure DJ is in his glory to be there with her.”
“God bless DJ Daniel!” the popular conservative account Publius said in response to the picture.
Joy was bursting from Daniel during his visit to the Oval Office, where he presented President Trump with a “big hug” and told him about his dream of becoming a police officer once he recovers from brain cancer.
“That’s very nice… Look at that family you got, huh? Very nice. How are you?” Trump said. “That was a big evening last night, right?”
In his remarks, the Republican explained that, six years ago, doctors gave Daniel just five months to live. DJ, hailing from Houston, Texas, has been battling terminal brain and spinal cancer since his diagnosis in 2018, when he was just six years old.
Over the years, he has been sworn in as an honorary officer by more than 900 law enforcement agencies across the United States.
In a conversation with KPNX last December, Theodis Daniel shared the harrowing journey of his son, Daniel, who has endured 13 brain surgeries and is battling advanced cataracts.
“I think his heart is bigger than his body,” Theodis said. “He’s been on just about any and every media outlet that you can think of. He’s standing here before you today because of the resilience, the tenacity and aggressive nature to want to fight this cancer all the way being kind, nice and thoughtful and humble, anyone who meets him with him.”
Still, not all members of Congress were ready to applaud their young spectator. Democrats sat on their hands or were ejected for shouting at President Trump during his speech.
On MSNBC, Nicolle Wallace was scorched and lost scores of viewers after backhandedly wishing Daniel a “long life” and hoping he never has to battle a MAGA “insurrection.”
“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer. But I hope he never has to defend the U.S. Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters. And if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide. And I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the ones who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people,” Wallace told Rachel Maddow on Tuesday night following the president’s remarks.
