NEW: DOGE Asks All Federal Employees To Ask What They’ve Accomplished Or Face Termination
All federal employees have reportedly been asked to provide a written list of the things they’ve worked on or accomplished within the past week, according to a new directive issued by President Trump. Those who fail to comply could be fired.
In an X post on Saturday, Elon Musk explained that the evaluation will be conducted over email and that all federal workers will be required to justify their productivity. “Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk wrote. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
A spokesperson for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) confirmed the plans in a statement to Fox News. “As part of the Trump Administration’s commitment to an efficient and accountable federal workforce, OPM is asking employees to provide a brief summary of what they did last week by the end of Monday, CC’ing their manager,” the official said. “Agencies will determine any next steps.”

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung later voiced support for the new initiative and shared a screenshot from the email in an X post of his own. “This is such a good idea and even White House staffers can list all of the great things they’ve done this week, just like everyone in the Administration should do as well,” Cheung wrote.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) labor union condemned the review and announced plans to “challenge any unlawful terminations of our members and federal employees across the country.”
“It is cruel and disrespectful for federal employees to be forced to justify their job duties to this out-of-touch, privileged, unelected billionaire who has never performed one single hour of honest public service in his life,” the AFGE wrote.
The latest update comes as the Musk-led DOGE initiative continues to recommend spending and staffing cuts across the entirety of the federal government.
As of Monday, DOGE is estimating that it has saved American taxpayers roughly $55 billion, according to the running tally on doge.gov. The site states that savings have come from a combination of “fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings.”
