NEW: Experts Explain ‘Concerning Marks’ On Trump’s Hand

Medical experts were stunned when President Donald Trump made one of his latest public appearances with what appeared to be makeup covering new marks on the top of his right hand. Some who have seen what lies beneath say it may be indicative of a “concerning” health ailment.

The makeup appeared to cover a raised circular patch of skin on the president’s hand that his team may have been eager to hide. A variety of physicians who saw footage of Trump speaking with reporters shared their insight about what might be afflicting him.

“More likely than not, he has some bruising on his hand and they are trying to hide it,” Dr. Boback Berookhim, a New York urologist and men’s health expert, said after watching Trump stroll across the White House lawn on Wednesday.

“‘It could be from a blood draw, an insect bite or potentially from hitting his hand against something.”

Blood draws may create a small histamine reaction contained to a close area of a needle’s insertion under the skin. Micro-trauma produced from the draw can occasionally producer greater bruising, especially among older patients.

“President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other President in history,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in response to questions about the health of President Trump, who turned 78 this month.

“His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day.”

Dr. Neal Patel, a primary care physician in Orange County, California, said it’s unlikely the reaction on Trump’s hand is a symptom of the many handshakes he is fond of taking while on the campaign trail.

“Shaking too many hands is a little bit of a stretch. President Trump has had something like this in the past, and from my experience and my patients, I would put that lower on the list of possibilities,” he told the Daily Mail.

The outlet reviewed months of Trump’s past appearances dating back to his inauguration and found similar instances of cover-up that look to have been used on Trump’s hand.

Dr Stuart Fischer, a New York City-based internist, noted that skin fragility is common among men in Trump’s age bracket. He is the second-oldest president in history behind Joe Biden.

At that age, skin perforations more frequently cause purple or blood-colored splotches beneath the skin, he said.

As we age, the loss of fat, collagen, and elasticity in the skin makes blood vessels more exposed, leading to the unsightly blotches that may be affecting President Trump.

The force of a needle can compress vessels against bone, causing them to rupture and bleed beneath the skin, Dr. Fischer explained.

“It could be a simple routine physical,” Dr Berookhim noted. “Perhaps he is on medications that need monitoring; maybe he was having some complaint and they wanted to look further.”

He added that the site of Trump’s possible bruising — the back of the hand compared to the crook of his elbow — may point to pain Trump told his doctor he was experiencing on top of his hand, which may be different from a blood draw.

“If he’s a hard stick – so it’s hard to get blood from a vein in his arm – the hand is a great option,” he said.

“If his veins are dehydrated, we’d also consider doing it on the hand. The veins get flattened in a sense and it’s harder to get the vein.”
