NEW: FBI Discovers DNA Match To Suspected Assassin
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Monday that investigators have made a conclusive connection between the site of Charlie Kirk’s murder and the young man who turned himself in after admitting to the slaying.
The murder weapon, a Mauser .30-06 bolt action hunting rifle, was found discarded and wrapped in a towel, but it contained DNA evidence matching 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, the college student who surrendered late Thursday night after confessing to his father.
Matching DNA evidence was also found on top of the Losee Center building of Utah Valley University, where investigators believe the fatal shot on Kirk was taken.
“I can report today that the DNA hits from the towel that was wrapped around the firearm and the DNA on the screwdriver are positively processed for the suspect in custody,” Patel told Fox News.
Authorities say Robinson jumped off the roof and fled to a nearby subdivision after firing on Kirk, striking him once in the neck as he spoke before thousands of students. Investigators believe he holed up in an abandoned house and may have used a vehicle to return home to his family home, which sits about 260 miles away from the campus where Kirk spoke.
On the roof, investigators “discovered a shoe impression on the northeast corner” consistent with the soles of the Converse/Chuck Taylor shoe Robinson was later found wearing, according to booking records.

Patel also revealed that forensic investigators have uncovered evidence of a since-destroyed note where Robinson allegedly claimed he had one chance to “take out” Kirk before the conservative activist left Utah. The FBI director did not clarify whether the note was digital or physical, but said that it was sent to Robinson’s transgender roommate and lover.
The individual, who is in the process of transitioning from male to female, has not been charged in Kirk’s murder and is said to be cooperating with authorities.
Last Friday, the roommate turned over messages from a Discord chat where Robinson allegedly posted dark messages about needing to “retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel.”
The Discord user known as “Tyler” also discussed “engraving bullets” with statements and “a mention of a scope and the rifle being unique messages,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox stated on Friday.
