New Footage Shows Suspected Assassin Limping Through Surrounding Neighborhood

A number of newly-released videos show the suspected gunman who assassinated conservative icon Charlie Kirk skulking through a neighborhood surrounding the Utah Valley University campus after he fled the scene. In one video, which was captured through a home security camera, the gunman appeared to be limping.

While speaking at a news conference on Thursday morning, officials stated that the gunman fired the fatal shot from a nearby rooftop located about 150-200 yards away from Kirk’s tent. Images of the gunman’s sniper’s nest indicate that he had a clear shot on the conservative activist, who was fatally wounded by a single shot to the neck.

After taking the shot, the gunman is believed to have escaped the rooftop before fleeing through a surrounding neighborhood. Investigators on Thursday morning also recovered a weapon — an imported .30-06-caliber Mauser bolt-action rifle — which was found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area.

On Wednesday evening, footage obtained by TMZ shows the suspected gunman walking through a neighborhood, in Orem, Utah towards the Utah Valley campus ahead of the shooting. In one video, filmed from a home security camera, a person matching the description and clothing of the FBI’s person of interest,  appeared to be limping prior to carrying out the attack.

After the shooting, the same camera caught the gunman fleeing the scene through a backyard across the street. In a separate video, the gunman appeared to be moving at a brisk, slight jogging pace.

Police and agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were seen at the home which the video was filmed on Thursday morning, Fox News reported. One of them climbed a ladder and removed the entire floodlight unit, which included a home security camera.

Erwin Steele and his family own several homes on West Street in Orem, one of which is separated from the Utah Valley campus by a chain fence. The home is located directly across from an alleyway the shooter may have used to escape the scene.

The manhunt for Kirk’s killer is ongoing as of 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. Authorities were set to provide additional details at a press conference earlier in the day, though it was canceled due to “rapid developments” in the case.

FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino are currently headed to Salt Lake City, where they are rumored to be holding a press conference of their own.

The bureau has released an image of the person of interest and is offering a reward worth $100,000 for any information leading to their capture. The suspect appears to be a slender white, possibly Hispanic male who was dressed in a blue shirt with an American flag logo atop an eagle, dark pants, a dark-colored hat and sunglasses.

Person of interest in the murder of Charlie Kirk

Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, accompanied Kirk’s wife, Erika and the couple’s two young daughters as his body was transported from Salt Lake City to Kirk’s home in Phoenix, Arizona. Heartbreaking footage showed the vice president personally escorting Kirk’s casket to be loaded onto the aircraft.

While speaking with reporters ahead of a trip to Yankee Stadium to commemorate the September 11 attacks, President Trump described the killer as an “anima;” who should face the death penalty.

“I think progress is being made. He’s an animal. Total animal. And hopefully they’ll have him and they’ll get him,” the president said. “What he did is disgraceful. Charlie Kirk was a great person, a great man, great in every way, especially with you. And what he did…what this man did was disgraceful. So hopefully we’ll have him and we will deal with him very appropriately.”

The president has confirmed that he will be attending Kirk’s funeral. He also plans to posthumously award the prominent conservative activist with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
