NEW: Ilhan Omar Goes After MTG, Immediately Regrets It

The possible pardon of former police officer Derek Chauvin provoked a war of words between Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and “Squad” Democrat Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who surely regretted instigating the feud.

Green on Wednesday celebrated rumors that Minnesota officials are preparing for civil unrest if President Donald Trump grants Chauvin a pardon for the 2020 death of George Floyd. Chauvin was convicted less than a year later and sentenced to 21 years in federal prison; a state conviction added 22.5 years to his imprisonment.

Floyd died during a struggle with Chauvin where the former officer kneeled on his neck for more than seven minutes, a position meant to subdue but which two juries found ultimately led to his death.

The trial catalyzed the height of the Black Lives Matter movement and a nationwide “racial reckoning,” but since that time conservatives have encouraged a reevaluation of the case, arguing that Floyd’s habitual drug use contributed to his death. He had fentanyl in his system and suffered from heart disease at the time of his death, but a coroner concluded before Chauvin’s trial that neither was the primary cause.

Still, Greene believes the cultural zeitgeist of that period in time contributed to an unfair sentence for Chauvin and said it would be the right move for President Donald Trump to issue him a pardon.

“I strongly support Derek Chauvin being pardoned and released from prison. George Floyd died of a drug overdose,” the MAGA firebrand wrote on X.

Omar, not one to shy away from feuds with her conservative colleagues, quoted MTG’s post with one of her own.

“Absolutely vile. Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd in a modern day lynching— it was chilling and intentional,” she wrote, adding, “Also hate to break it to you, Marjorie, but regardless of any potential pardon, Chauvin will remain in jail for his state conviction. He will forever be a convicted murderer in the eyes of the law and the world.”

But Greene was ready with an evergreen response of her own.

“Busy day fighting Democrats. First Mike Lawler who is trying to destroy Trump’s agenda and now illegal alien Ilhan Omar of Somalia,” she shot back.

“Ilhan, you know what’s vile? Having sex with and marrying your brother!!!”

Omar responded late Wednesday evening, referring to MTG’s allegation of incest as a pornographic “fantasy” of the far-right, but others in her district — including those in the closely-knit Somali community of Minnesota — say there’s truth to the rumor.

The partisan barb-trading caught the attention of fellow “Squad” Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who weighed in, claiming it’s a lie that Floyd died from drugs.

“You can lie to yourself all day, but the rest of us remember exactly what happened,” she wrote that same day.

But MTG had her receipts ready, and in response, posted a copy of Floyd’s toxicology report showing fentanyl and norfentanyl in his system.

“George Floyd died from a drug overdose. He was one of the hundreds of thousands of Americans killed by fentanyl that is trafficked across our border by cartels. Jasmine Crockett doesn’t care about Americans killed by drugs like George Floyd, she cares about protecting cartels from being deported,” she told her followers.
