NEW: Jasmine Crockett Confronted By Reporter In Heated Exchange: ‘You Don’t Feel Bad?’

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was confronted Wednesday night by Fox Business congressional correspondent Hillary Vaughn over her refusal to apologize for mocking Governor Greg Abbott’s disability (R-TX) —leading to a tense exchange captured on video.

The confrontation came days after Crockett referred to Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a March 22 speech at a Human Rights Campaign event, a remark critics have condemned as an attack on the Texas governor’s use of a wheelchair.

“I put out a statement regarding that,” Crockett told Vaughn, who pressed her on whether she regretted the comment. Vaughn replied, “You didn’t apologize.”

“Why would I apologize when I put out a statement?” Crockett snapped back.

The back-and-forth escalated as Vaughn pointed out that the statement lacked an actual apology. “My statement was clear,” Crockett insisted.

“But you didn’t apologize for calling him Governor Hot Wheels—when he gets around in a wheelchair,” Vaughn said.

Crockett, unphased, responded, “I don’t understand how that’s offensive to people.”

The exchange concluded with Vaughn asking bluntly, “You don’t feel bad about making fun of someone who is in a wheelchair?”

The fallout has continued to mount. On Wednesday, Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) filed a formal resolution to censure Crockett, accusing her of “conduct unbecoming of a Member of Congress.”

“I have officially FILED the censure resolution against Rep. Jasmine Crockett,” Weber announced on X. “She must be censured and held accountable for the venomous rhetoric she spews as a representative of the Democratic Party.”

Weber, in a statement to Fox News, called Crockett’s behavior “reprehensible,” saying, “It’s painfully obvious she was never taught a single thing about Texas class. Her behavior is a disgrace to everything Texas and the United States stands for.”

Crockett, however, continues to deny that her “Hot Wheels” remark was aimed at Abbott’s disability. In a post on X, she said, “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.”

She added, “Literally, the next line I said was that he was a ‘Hot A** Mess,’ referencing his terrible policies.”

Crockett also took a shot at Republican critics for what she views as selective outrage. “I’m even more appalled that the very people who unequivocally support Trump—a man known for racially insensitive nicknames and mocking those with disabilities—are now outraged,” she wrote.

“Keep that same energy for all people, not just your political adversaries,” Crockett continued. “Instead of obsessing over and hanging on to my every word, maybe my political foes should focus on doing the work of the people who elected us.”

Still, as public and political pressure mounts, Crockett remains unapologetic—repeating only that her “statement was clear.”
