In February of last year, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was undergoing treatment. The monarch has maintained public appearances over the last year, though he has at times admitted that there are good days and bad days. On some of his worst days, the king has stated that he deals with “paralysis.”

“I did just want to say what a great joy it is to be with you, even briefly, on this occasion. But also, it turns with great sadness after 32 years of knowing you all, and admiring all your many activities and your achievements throughout the time that I’ve been lucky enough to be Colonel-in-Chief of the Army over. Back in December, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles’ treatment was trending “in a very positive direction,” a relief for Royal Family observers who at one point feared that the 78-year-old may not survive. As he approaches the one-year mark in his treatment, the king will remain in a “managed condition,” a Palace spokesperson said on Friday. “His treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year,” they added.
