NEW: Lara Trump Makes Final Decision On Florida Senate Race
Lara Trump, President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law who most recently served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee, announced Saturday that she is removing her name from consideration to fill Florida’s soon-to-be open U.S. Senate seat. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has been nominated to serve as secretary of state by the president-elect.
“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Trump announced in an X post.

The former RNC co-chair, who currently resides in Palm Beach, went on to state that she is “honored” and “humbled” to have helped to steer the RNC during “the most high-stakes election of our lifetime.” She also thanked the people of Florida specifically for their support amidst Senate speculation.
“I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned,” the post continued. “I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.”

Trump, the wife of Eric Trump, stepped down from her position with the RNC earlier this month.
While the Florida Senate seat is no longer in play, Lara Trump is rumored to be considering a primary challenge to Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) in her home state of North Carolina. A new poll from Victory Insights found Trump securing 65 percent of the vote in a primary race, far outpacing Tillis, who received support from just 11 percent of respondents.
As for the Florida seat, Governor DeSantis is rumored to be sorting through an abbreviated shortlist that includes current Attorney General Ashley Moody, lieutenant governor Jeanette Nuñez, and DeSantis’ chief of staff, James Uthmeier. If Uthmeir is picked, he would widely be viewed as a potential placeholder for DeSantis, who could run for the seat when he terms out as governor.
