NEW: Major Shift In Key Virginia County Stuns Pundits, Hints At Tight Race

on

Loudoun County, Virginia, a longtime Democratic stronghold, has seen a notable swing toward former President Donald Trump in the latest election results. With 95 percent of votes counted, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris leads Trump in the county, but only by a 17-point margin, securing 57 percent of the vote to Trump’s 40 percent.

The 8-point swing toward the Republican candidate is a significant departure from the 2020 election results when then-Democratic nominee Joe Biden won Loudoun County by a decisive margin, capturing 61 percent of the vote to Trump’s 37 percent. Biden’s substantial lead in Loudoun was instrumental to his victory in Virginia, where he took the commonwealth’s 13 electoral votes with a statewide margin of about 9-10 percent.

Loudoun County’s election turnout in 2020 hit unprecedented levels, with 78 percent of eligible voters casting ballots—a total of 221,967 votes, with a substantial portion submitted through absentee or early voting, driven by concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.

The shift toward Trump in Loudoun County could be indicative of a larger trend across Virginia and perhaps the nation, suggesting that the race might be tighter than many polls had anticipated. For Republicans, the narrowing gap in a county that has traditionally leaned Democratic is a promising sign that their message may be resonating with voters in suburban areas.
