NEW: Major Update Surfaces Regarding Soros Investigation

House Republicans are set to receive an update on the Trump administration’s investigation into billionaire George Soros’ influence over local radio stations. The Republican Study Committee has scheduled a closed-door meeting on Wednesday with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr to discuss the matter.

The Republican Study Committee, a group of 175 conservative lawmakers is set to meet behind closed doors on Wednesday with Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

A person familiar with the plans said to Fox News that Carr is expected to update Republican lawmakers on the commission’s investigation into George Soros, including a firm tied to the billionaire that recently acquired more than 200 Audacy radio stations nationwide.

The FCC Chairman has voiced significant concerns over the radio station’s actions, stating it’s “really concerning” that a station funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros aired live locations of undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Carr’s focus is on San Francisco’s KCBS 740 AM following reports that it disclosed live locations of undercover ICE vehicles and agents during deportation operations in the area.

“I try to look on the bright side of things, and here I think that’s the fact, that we were having an unprecedented number of deportations taking place in this country, and for that, thank goodness for President Trump,” Carr mentioned during an interview with Brian Kilmeade on “FOX & Friends.”

He praised the administration’s efforts, noting, “Promises made, promises kept. He came in and said he’s the person that can not only secure the border, but also deport people here illegally, and he’s carrying that out with unprecedented speed,” Carr continued.

The investigation centers on a significant transaction in which an investment firm linked to Soros acquired over 200 radio stations from Audacy Inc., a major radio network. The acquisition, fast-tracked by the FCC in September 2024, granted Soros’ firm a substantial stake in Audacy’s operations, raising concerns among Republican lawmakers about potential political bias and the influence of foreign ownership in American media.

“This is really concerning, so what happened was you had ICE agents undercover doing operations in East San Jose, part of the town known for violent gang activity, and you had this radio station broadcasting the live location, identifying the unmarked vehicles that they were in.”

“We have sent a letter of inquiry, a formal investigation into that matter, and they have days left to respond to that inquiry and explain how this could possibly be consistent with their public interest obligations,” Carr explained.

Last year, during an interview on “Mornings with Maria,” Carr indicated his intention to focus on Soros. “There’s a petition for reconsideration pending at the FCC right now. And I want to take a very hard look at that,” he said in late November.

At a September House Oversight Committee hearing, Carr raised the alarm over a new procedural shortcut the FCC has introduced. “The FCC is not following its normal process for reviewing a transaction. We have established over a number of years one way in which you can get approval from the FCC when you have an excess of 25 percent foreign ownership, which this transaction does.

“It seems to me that the FCC is poised to create, for the first time, an entirely new shortcut.” This deviation from established protocols has sparked concerns about the implications for future transactions involving significant foreign ownership.
