NEW: Murder Case Heats Up As Rob Reiner’s Son Retains Celebrity Defense Attorney
Rob Reiner’s troubled son, Nick Reiner, has hired high-profile defense attorney Alan Jackson after being arrested in connection with the killings of his parents, authorities said.
Jackson, whose past clients include Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein, is now representing the 32-year-old suspect. The lawyer also gained national attention for defending Karen Read in her Massachusetts murder trial and Malibu resident Fraser Bohm, who is accused of killing four sorority sisters in a high-speed crash.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Nick Reiner had not been formally charged.
He was scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court, but did not do so after failing to receive medical clearance, Jackson said. Speaking outside the courthouse, Jackson said he did not know the nature of the medical issue and added that Reiner would not appear before Wednesday.
Reiner was arrested and booked on suspicion of murdering his father, famed filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner, and his mother, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple were found dead Sunday inside their Brentwood home, their throats slashed, according to authorities.

Nick Reiner was taken into custody several hours after the bodies were discovered in the upscale Los Angeles neighborhood.
Investigators believe the couple died from stab wounds, though police have not disclosed a possible motive. Prosecutors are expected to decide soon whether and how to file charges.
Rob Reiner rose to fame as an Emmy-winning star of All in the Family before becoming a Hollywood heavyweight, directing hits including When Harry Met Sally… and The Princess Bride. He was also a prominent liberal activist for decades.
Michele Singer Reiner was a photographer, producer and longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. The couple had been married for 36 years.
Reiner has spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction, describing years of cycling through treatment facilities and periods of homelessness beginning in his teens.
