NEW: Music Icon Barry Manilow Shares Tragic Diagnosis

Barry Manilow revealed Monday that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer, telling fans the disease was caught early and is expected to be treated with surgery.

The 82-year-old singer shared the news in a post on Instagram, explaining that doctors discovered the cancer after weeks of lingering illness.

“As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks,” Manilow wrote. “Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK. The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed.”

Manilow called the discovery fortunate.

“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early,” he added. “That’s the good news.”

The music legend said he will undergo surgery to remove the spot and that doctors do not believe the cancer has spread.

“The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he wrote. “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

Because of the surgery and recovery time, Manilow said he must reschedule his January dates on the “Christmas A Gift of Love” concert series.

“The only follow-up is a month to recover and that means we have to reschedule the January arena concerts,” he said. “I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans.”

Manilow said he plans to return to the stage in February.

“In the meantime, I’m counting the days until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts on February 12-13-14 and throughout 2026,” he wrote. “Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party.”

Rescheduled dates for the January shows are now set for February, March and April.

Last year, Manilow was forced to cancel a London concert under doctor’s orders, though he returned to the stage the following night and later made up the canceled performance.

The “Could It Be Magic” singer is currently on his farewell run, “The Last Concerts.” He previously told Billboard that he still feels strong enough to keep performing.

“I’m still healthy. I’m strong and I’ve still got my voice and my energy,” Manilow said. “The night I can’t hit the F natural on ‘Even Now,’ that’s the night I throw in the towel. But I can still do it.”
