NEW: Nancy Pelosi Spotted Using A Walker On House Floor
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, traded in her signature high heels for the aid of a walker in her return to Congress this week.
The public appearance comes less than a month after Pelosi suffered a serious injury during an official trip to Luxembourg, where she fell on a marble staircase at the Grand Ducal Palace. The fall resulted in a fractured hip and required emergency surgery. While the injury sidelined her briefly, Pelosi has made a swift return to Capitol Hill, signaling her intent to remain active despite her physical challenges.
Pelosi’s spokesperson, Ian Krager, previously stated that she received “excellent treatment” from medical professionals, but the recovery process has clearly taken its toll. Her trademark stilettos, often a symbol of her unrelenting political drive, have been replaced by more practical footwear. Pelosi has also stated frequently in recent months that Trump is “unwell” to be president of the United States.

Despite the ordeal, Pelosi has shown no signs of relinquishing her role as a prominent Democratic figure. Her return to the House coincided with a historic certification of the 2024 presidential election results, in which Vice President Kamala Harris officially acknowledged Donald J. Trump’s victory for a second term.

Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate can serve an unlimited number of terms as long as they continue to be reelected by voters in their districts or states. However, with the growing scrutiny of aging political leaders, her visible reliance on a walker has reignited discussions about generational change in Congress.
“Today, the Congress certified the peaceful transfer of power in 30 minutes,” Pelosi wrote Monday. “With a bipartisan standing ovation at its conclusion, our country saw how our constitutional process is designed to work. As one who was a target of the violence on January 6th, 2021, and witnessed the trauma and injuries suffered by Members, staff and law enforcement, let us never forget that what happened today is how it should have been four years ago.”

Pelosi’s injury, however, adds to a growing list of concerns surrounding the fitness of Washington’s aging political elite. The timing of Pelosi’s fall came just days after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), 82, suffered his own mishap, spraining his wrist during a private Senate lunch.
Recovery from a fractured hip, especially at Pelosi’s age, is often lengthy and challenging. It typically involves surgery to repair the fracture, followed by weeks of physical therapy and rehabilitation. For older adults, such injuries can significantly impact mobility and quality of life, with recovery times ranging anywhere from three to six months, depending on the severity of the fracture and overall health.
