JUST IN: Truck Used In New Orleans Terrorist Attacked Crossed US-Mexico Border
The truck used in the terrorist attack in New Orleans — which killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more when a currently unidentified attacker intentionally ran down New Years celebrants in the city’s famed French Quarter — crossed the U.S.-Mexico border through Eagle Pass, Texas just two days ago. Officials have stated that they have likely determined the suspect’s identity, but are waiting to release the information to the public until it can be definitively confirmed, according to a report from ABC News.
The attack occurred in the early morning hours of New Years Day as the iconic Bourbon Street was packed with people celebrating the holiday. The driver, a currently unidentified male, jumped out of the vehicle after crashing into a small crane and opened fire on police. The suspect was killed in the ensuing shootout that wounded at least two New Orleans Police officers.

Law enforcement officials announced that at least 35 people were transported to local hospitals in addition to the 10 confirmed fatalities.
According to a report from Fox News, the truck used in the attack had a Texas license plate. The vehicle had crossed over the U.S. border with Mexico at Eagle Pass, Texas just two days ago.
It has not been confirmed whether the suspect was driving the vehicle while it crossed the southern border. Police have also not revealed whether the attacker was a U.S. citizen.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell told reporters that the attack has been classified as an act of terrorism, which was confirmed by the FBI after an initial denial.
“First of all, we do know that the city of New Orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack. It’s all still under investigation. You’ll hear more after me. However, I have been in direct contact with the White House, with Governor Landry, and of course a unified command who is present here,” Contrell said.
Despite initial denials from FBI agents on the scene, Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed that the attack is being investigated as an act of terrorism. “The FBI is investigating this matter as an act of terrorism. The FBI, the ATF, the Justice Department’s National Security Division, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana will continue to work with our law enforcement partners and will deploy every available resource to conduct this investigation,” Garland said in a statement of his own.
President-elect Donald Trump has also issued his condolences and vowed to correct the nation’s national security crisis once he takes office later this month. “When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before,” Trump said.
Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!”
Officials have reportedly identified the suspect, though they have not yet released his name to the public. A new press conference is expected at 2 p.m. Eastern Time after it was initially delayed by an hour.
Police have also revealed that they uncovered two improvised explosive devices connected with the attacker, which were safely detonated upon discovery.
