NEW: Pelosi Under Fire For Appearing ‘Drunk’ At Event Honoring Late Musician
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a self-described “Deadhead,” sparked a social media firestorm after taking the stage at a San Francisco tribute honoring Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir, with critics mocking what they called her awkward and bizarre appearance.
Thousands packed Civic Center Plaza on Saturday to celebrate Weir, who died earlier this month at 78. The memorial drew longtime fans, musicians and a handful of political figures, including Pelosi, according to FOX 2.
Pelosi, 85, addressed the crowd and then appeared to sway and sing along on stage as John Mayer performed the Grateful Dead classic “Ripple.” At several points during her remarks, she seemed to stumble over her words while reflecting on Weir’s legacy.
“Bobby Weir was not just a magician, musician, a magician too he was a force of nature,” Pelosi said.
She also turned the tribute into a brief political moment, urging attendees to vote.

“Weir gave me this sign, and I’ll show it today, because I said Bobby really loved democracy, he loved our country,” Pelosi said, holding up a sign reading “vote.” “You know what he wanted everybody to do? Vote!”
The appearance quickly drew ridicule online.
“Is Nancy Pelosi drunk at the Bob Weir Homecoming?” one user wrote on X.
Others zeroed in on her wardrobe, noting that Pelosi wore a bright magenta suit while most people on stage were dressed in black.
“Nancy Pelosi wearing a very somber magenta on stage at Bob Weir’s funeral,” another user joked.
Some questioned why Pelosi, who announced in November that she will retire from Congress when her current term ends in 2027, was given a speaking role at the memorial at all.
“Why is Nancy Pelosi speaking at this Bob Weir memorial,” one user asked.
“My bingo card today didn’t include Nancy Pelosi singing ‘Ripple’ along with John Mayer at the Bobby Weir send off,” another wrote.
The public tribute also featured appearances by folk icon Joan Baez and country singer Wynonna Judd, FOX 2 reported.
Weir died Jan. 10, according to a statement posted by his family on his Instagram page.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bobby Weir. He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could,” the statement said, adding that he later succumbed to lung problems.
Pelosi could not be reached for comment.
