NEW: Poll Shows Trump’s Support From Black Men Nearly Doubling Since Election
President Donald Trump is seeing a historic surge in support from Black men, according to a new poll. The latest National Voter Trend (NVT) survey found that 42% of Black men now approve of Trump’s job performance—nearly double his support from the 2024 election.
The move marks a major political realignment as Trump continues to gain ground with voters who have traditionally leaned Democratic. According to Cygnal President Brent Buchanan, the data suggests that working-class, diverse voters who played a key role in Trump’s November victory are now feeling more optimistic about the country’s future.
“Throughout the election, we highlighted just how far out of touch Democrats had become with the American public, and now after Trump’s victory and rapid action on his campaign promises, it’s clear they haven’t learned much,” Buchanan said.
“Take the ticked-off, young, diverse, working-class voters that propelled Trump to the White House for example. They were a key constituency that gave Trump an edge over Harris as white voters stayed flat in their margin for Trump.”
Trump’s rising support among Black men is part of a trend that sees Democrats hemorrhaging support from key voter blocs. The poll shows that only 40% of voters have a favorable opinion of congressional Democrats, while 54% hold an unfavorable view.
By contrast, congressional Republicans are nearly evenly split at 47% favorable, 48% unfavorable. John Rogers, Cygnal’s Director of Client Strategy, pointed to Trump’s success in addressing top voter concerns as a driving factor behind the numbers.
“Swing voters are plus seven percent in support of Trump’s efforts, led by Elon Musk, to right-size the federal government, and swing voters are plus 29 percent in support of the Trump administration’s actions on illegal immigration,” Rogers said. “In comparison, Congressional Democrats are rudderless and unpopular, with a net image of negative 14 (40% favorable/54% unfavorable) among all voters.”
Voters across the board are responding positively to Trump’s policy actions. The poll found that inflation and the economy remain the number one concern for 32% of voters, and many are crediting Trump’s economic policies for improving outlooks. Concerns over illegal immigration have dropped from 21% to 17% since Trump began implementing his border security measures.
Other key findings from the poll include:
- Merit-Based Hiring Over DEI: 64% of voters believe government jobs should be based on merit, including 55% of Hispanics and 41% of Democrats.
- Border Security Wins: 53% of voters support Trump’s aggressive actions to stop illegal immigration, and 55% oppose sanctuary cities that protect criminal aliens.
- Declassifying JFK, RFK, and MLK Files: A majority (56%) support Trump’s executive order to release classified files related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.
- Tariffs on China: Half of voters approve of Trump’s 10% tariffs on Chinese imports, with 6-in-10 recent converts to Trump backing the move.
- Optimism Soars: The percentage of Americans who believe the country is on the wrong track has dropped 14 points in just one month—indicating rising confidence in Trump’s leadership.
The numbers paint a grim picture for Democrats heading into the 2026 midterm elections. With the Republican Party increasingly gaining traction among minority voters, particularly Black and Hispanic men, the traditional Democratic coalition is fracturing.
A significant portion of the “Ticked-Off, Young, Diverse, Working-Class” voter segment, which swung toward Trump in 2024, now appears to be solidifying as a key component of his base. These voters are more likely to be religious, working-class, and focused on economic issues—three areas where Democrats have struggled to maintain credibility.
If the current trend holds, the left could be facing an even greater electoral setback in the years ahead.
