NEW: President-Elect Trump Weighs In On New Jersey Drone Sightings

Published

on

President-elect Trump is calling for the unidentified drones that have been spotted on a nightly basis in parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania over the past month to be shot down if the Biden Administration has no idea what they are or where they came from.

“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge. I don’t think so!” Trump wrote in a TruthSocial post on Friday evening.

“Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!”

The president-elect’s statement comes after weeks of consistent and mysterious drone sightings that have mostly affected northern New Jersey.

On November 18, the FAA first received reports of drone activity within Morris County, the border of which lies about two miles north of Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Somerset County, according to a report from Fox News. After requests from “federal security partners,” the agency issued two temporary flight restrictions, or TFRs, for the state.

Drone sightings were initially reported around military sites, including Picatinny Arsenal, a major U.S. Army hub in Dover, New Jersey, which primarily focuses on research and development via its CCDCAC armaments center. As the weeks have dragged on, however, numerous drones have been spotted flying over densely populated residential areas.

The FBI and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy have stated that the drones pose no known threat to public safety, while the Biden Administration has repeatedly claimed that the drones are not being operated by a foreign adversary.

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby has claimed that many of the purported drone sightings are actually lawfully operated manned aircraft, adding that there is no evidence of a national security or public safety threat. A number of residents and lawmakers are unsatisfied with that answer and are demanding action.

“Until something is found, it’s really difficult to say,” said Brett Velicovich, CEO of Expert Drones. “We haven’t seen any clear images.”

The drones are “six feet in diameter,” fly in a coordinated way with their lights off and “appear to avoid detection by traditional methods,” according to New Jersey state Rep. Dawn Fantasia, who shared details from a briefing given by the New Jersey State Police. Reports have ranged from four to 180 sightings per night, ranging from New Jersey, to Pennsylvania, to Connecticut.
