President Donald Trump called for the nation to pray for prominent conservative activist after he appeared to have been shot while speaking at an event on the Utah Valley University campus.

“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” the president posted on Truth Social.

As of this report, Kirk’s condition is unknown. It is also unknown whether any additional bystanders or speakers when a gunman opened fire with what sounded like a rifle.

A horrific angle of the shootings shows Kirk, dressed in a white shirt, speaking under a tent when he was struck by at least one bullet. He appeared to have been struck in the upped body or head/neck area.

Campus officials immediately placed the university on lockdown, urging students to shelter in place as police and security swarmed the scene.

Video posted online shows the suspect, described as an older man, being restrained and taken into custody outside the venue. In one clip circulating on social media, the man can be seen on the ground as officers place him in handcuffs while stunned bystanders look on.

Kirk, 31, is best known as the founder of the campus conservative organization Turning Point USA. For the better part of a decade, he has traveled to college campuses across the country in order to hold events and take questions from attendees, including those of the political left.

The organization’s success both in campus activism and voter registration has turned Kirk into one of the most prominent conservative personalities in the United States.

Prayers and well wishes have poured in for Kirk from across the political world and beyond. “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father,” Vice President JD Vance announced in an X post of his own.

Kirk’s condition remains unknown as of this report. This is a developing story.
