NEW: Prominent Liberal Politician Hit With Arrest Warrant After Skipping Court Date
A Missouri judge issued an arrest warrant for Jill Stein after the three-time Green Party presidential candidate skipped a court hearing tied to her arrest at a chaotic anti-Israel campus protest.
Stein, 76, and her attorney failed to appear in person as ordered Monday morning in St. Louis court.
The Green Party firebrand faces one count of first-degree trespassing and one count of fourth-degree assault stemming from the April 27, 2024, protest at Washington University in St. Louis.
The warrant did not last long.
Stein’s lawyer, Joseph Welch, appeared in court later that afternoon and persuaded Judge Karma Johnson to quash it, according to court records. The misdemeanor case will be continued on Sept. 14, when Stein and the other parties will be required to appear in person.
The demonstration began in Forest Park before protesters moved onto the university’s Danforth Campus, entered the John M. Olin Library and began pitching tents outside, court documents state.
Police repeatedly ordered the crowd to leave. After receiving a final warning that they were under arrest for trespassing, demonstrators locked arms and yelled “hold the line” as officers approached.

Stein allegedly grabbed a bicycle being used by Officer Conroy, prompting another officer to intervene. The bicycle struck the second officer, identified as Officer Moore, in his left forearm, according to the charging documents.

As the bicycle was lifted, Stein allegedly kicked Moore several times in his right leg near the groin.
Moore was later diagnosed with a strained left forearm, a bruise on the back of his right leg and a groin injury.
Footage posted to Stein’s X account showed police taking the far-left candidate into custody and escorting her away from the protest. Her campaign manager, Jason Call, and his deputy, Kelly Merrill-Caye, were among the scores of demonstrators arrested.
St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith said after charges were filed in 2025 that the prosecution concerned alleged criminal conduct rather than the protesters’ political views.
“I want to make it clear that these misdemeanor criminal charges are not a statement about the freedoms of speech or assembly, which we honor and uphold as part of our Constitution,” Smith stated.
“They are not a statement about the subject of the protest, which was the situation in Gaza. These charges merely reflect our professional judgment that we have the evidence to prove these particular criminal charges beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Jill Stein was the Green Party’s presidential nominee in 2012, 2016 and 2024.
Her best showing came in 2016, when she received more than 1.4 million votes, or 1.07% of the national total.
