NEW: Rogan Smacks Down Harris Campaign’s Interview Demands
Joe Rogan is balking at demands by Vice President Kamala Harris that she insists must be met if she is to sit down with him for an interview before the election.
The New York Post reported that Rogan smacked down the suggestion that he would cater to Harris’s every whim for the pleasure of having her on his show, the world’s most popular podcast and which recently featured former President Donald Trump. Among the demands was that Rogan leave his Austin, Texas studio and travel to Harris. In addition, their conversation would be limited to one hour, not the three usually expected of his guests. “[F]or the record the Harris campaign has not passed on doing the podcast,” Rogan wrote on X Tuesday morning. “They offered a date for Tuesday, but I would have had to travel to her and they only wanted to do an hour. I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin. My sincere wish is to just have a nice conversation and get to know her as a human being. I really hope we can make it happen.”

Rogan’s salvo is the latest in backchannel negotiations to have Harris come on and match Trump’s energy during Friday’s episode, which drew more than 26 million listeners in its first 24 hours and has gotten over 37 million replays as of Tuesday morning. The former president will be followed by running mate J.D. Vance (R-OH), who according to insiders will record his own interview with Rogan at 9 a.m. Wednesday, marking a doubling down by Republicans on their efforts to sway low-propensity, young male voters who need extra motivation to get out and vote. Harris, in continuing to speak with Rogan, is making a tacit admission that her appeals to male voters have not been strong enough, a criticism that Democratic allies privately fret may cost her the election.
During his interview, Trump jumped at the opportunity to ridicule his rival’s ability to last three hours in-studio with Rogan. “Can you imagine Kamala doing this show? She’s be laying on the floor” Trump joked. “If she did this kind of an interview with you, I hope she does, because it would be a mess. She’d be laying on the floor. Comatose. She’d be saying, ‘Call in the medics.'” Rogan, who was in negotiations with Harris at the time, responded more sympathetically. “I could imagine her doing this show. She was supposed to do it. And she might still do it. And I hope she does. I will talk to her like a human being. I would try to have a conversation with her,” he replied. “I think we’d have a fine conversation. I think I’d be able to talk to her. I wouldn’t try to interview her. I’d just try to have a conversation with her and hopefully get to know her as a human being. That was my goal. Having her on, trying to get her to express herself,” he added.
Harris has been accused of only agreeing to softball interviews like those on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, appearing on ABC’ “The View,” and CBS’ “Late Night with Stephen Colbert.” Despite stepping on her words a few times during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier earlier this month, other media observers credited Harris for holding her own. Appearing with Rogan, who has been especially sympathetic to Trump’s point of view but hasn’t endorsed him, would be a major departure from her mostly play-it-safe public relations schedule.
