NEW: Top Reporter Ditches Mainstream Outlet, Joins Right-Leaning Media Giant
Olivia Beavers, a top reporter for Politico’s Congress team, has announced her departure from the left-leaning outlet to join The Wall Street Journal. Known for her in-depth political reporting and ability to secure inside scoops from Capitol Hill, Beavers’ move has raised eyebrows in the journalism community, given WSJ’s more balanced editorial stance.
Beavers has been a congressional reporter for Politico since January 2021, specializing in coverage of House Republicans and GOP leadership. She started her tenure as the author of the Huddle newsletter and quickly distinguished herself by providing an exclusive first-person account from inside the House chamber during the Capitol breach on January 6.
Before her current role, she was known for her investigative reporting at The Hill, where she led coverage of the first impeachment proceedings against former President Donald Trump and regularly delivered news on House-led investigations.
Beavers shared the news on X, formerly Twitter, expressing her gratitude for her four years at Politico while teasing her next chapter at The Wall Street Journal. “After 4 years at POLITICO, tomorrow will be my last day. I’m thrilled to be joining the WSJ Congress team in about two weeks’ time,” she wrote.

Her reporting portfolio also includes in-depth coverage of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and the accompanying congressional inquiries into Russia. She began her Washington career as a news associate at CNN in 2016. There, she managed scripts and operated the teleprompter during the tumultuous presidential election season. She first joined The Hill as a breaking news reporter, later shifting to cybersecurity and national security beats.

Your trust is everything. … And I look forward to bugging you over and over again in 2025, as per usual.” Beavers finished, “To those who have followed my work, including some wonderful folks I got to know when I was authoring Huddle when I first came to Politico, I hope you will join me in the next chapter.”
