NEW: Trump And Biden Finalize Plans For Oval Office Meeting
President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump will meet for a post-election meeting in the Oval Office on Wednesday, the White House confirmed in a statement Saturday.
A day after Trump’s historic comeback win, Biden congratulated his longtime rival in a phone call and extended the invitation. The two are also expected to have a lunch meeting before the Oval Office event, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. Eastern Time.
While leaving church in Delaware on Saturday, Biden was asked about the upcoming meeting and the standing of his relationship with the president-elect, who the president has labeled as a threat to the Republic throughout his tenure in the White House. “Is President Trump still a threat to democracy?” shouted one reporter.
“I’m gonna see him on Wednesday,” the president replied before entering an awaiting car.
Trump is the first former president to return to the White House since Grover Cleveland emerged victorious in the 1892 presidential election.
“This will truly be the golden age of America,” the president-elect said during his victory speech on Tuesday. “This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again.”
