WATCH: Bruising Appears On Trump’s Hand Ahead Of Pittsburgh Visit

While President Donald Trump was speaking with reporters ahead of his scheduled visit to Pittsburgh for an economic summit, C-SPAN cameras captured what appears to be a bruise mark on the president’s right hand. The White House has in the past chalked up bruising on the president’s hand to a number of factors, including aggressive handshaking.

The moment was captured as the president answered a question about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. At one point, Trump lifted up his right hand to show what appeared to be a white, bruise-like mark. Whatever it was, the wound appeared minor, as the president made no mention of it and is carrying on with his scheduled visits as planned.

While the mark generated intrigue on social media, both White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and President Trump himself have in the past chalked up the bruises to aggressive handshaking, golf and the president’s lengthy workday. “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other President in history,” Leavitt told Fox News back in June after Trump’s hand appeared to be bruised following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

“His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day,” she added.

In his “Person of the Year” interview with Time magazine last year, Trump revealed that bruising on his hand has become commonplace as he shakes hands with “thousands” of people on a daily basis. Bruising becomes more commonplace with age, which would appear to validate what Trump, 79, told the outlet.

According to the Mayo Clinic, older people bruise more easily because aging skin becomes thinner and less elastic, losing some of its protective fatty layer. This makes blood vessels more fragile and prone to damage from minor impacts. Additionally, capillaries weaken with age, and certain medications, like blood thinners or corticosteroids, can increase bruising tendencies.
