NEW: Trump, Elon Launch Plan To Investigate Low-Salary Bureaucrats With High Net Worths

President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk took center stage in the Oval Office on Tuesday, unveiling a sweeping initiative to investigate federal bureaucrats whose salaries don’t seem to match their staggering net worths. Musk, donning a black “Make America Great Again” hat and accompanied by his son, “X,” stood beside Trump as he outlined findings that have raised serious concerns about financial irregularities in Washington.

Trump set the stage for Musk to present details, asking, “Could you mention some of the things that your team has found, some of the crazy numbers, including the woman that walked away with about $30 million?”

Musk, chosen by Trump to spearhead a cost-cutting overhaul of federal agencies, did not hold back.

“Well, we do find it rather odd that there are quite a few people in the bureaucracy who have an ostensibly salary of a few hundred thousand dollars, but somehow manage to accrue tens of millions of dollars in net worth while they are in that position,” Musk explained. “That’s what happened at USAID. We’re just curious as to where it came from. Maybe they’re very good at investing, in which case we should take their investment advice perhaps.”

“There seems to be mysteriously—they get wealthy. We don’t know why. Where did it come from? And I think the reality is that they’re getting wealthier at the taxpayer’s expense,” Musk stated.

Musk continued by exposing systemic inefficiencies in financial oversight across various agencies, singling out the U.S. Treasury Department. “Basic controls that should be in place, that are in place in any company, such as making sure that any given payment has a payment categorization code, that there is a comment field that describes the payment, and that if a payment is on the ‘do not pay’ list, that you don’t actually pay it—none of those things are true currently,” Musk revealed.

He described an almost incomprehensible lack of oversight. “The reason that departments can’t pass audits is because the payments don’t have a categorization code. It’s like just a massive number of blank checks flying out the building,” Musk said, adding that even the “do not pay” list, meant to prevent taxpayer money from reaching fraudulent actors, takes up to a year to update. “And even when it’s on the list, the list is not used. It’s mind-blowing.”

Musk took aim at Social Security payments as well, pointing out glaring issues that highlight government dysfunction. “We’ve got people in there that are 150 years old,” Musk said. “Now, do you know anyone who’s 150? I don’t. Okay. They should be in the Guinness Book of World Records. They’re missing out.”

The underlying issue, according to Musk, is a culture within the bureaucracy that prioritizes minimizing complaints over ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. “If people receive money, they don’t complain, obviously. But if people don’t receive money, they do complain. And the fraudsters complain the loudest and the fastest,” he noted.

Musk and Trump’s initiative is expected to involve deep financial audits, new transparency measures, and sweeping changes to ensure that federal agencies are held accountable. “Your tax dollars need to be spent wisely on things that matter to the people,” Musk said. “It’s just common sense.”

With Musk leading the charge, Washington’s long-standing financial opacity is now in the crosshairs of an administration determined to expose what Trump has called “one of the biggest scams on the American taxpayer.”
