NEW: Trump Hints At Secret Weapon For 2026 Midterms
On Thursday, President Donald Trump teased what he called a potential game-changing move ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, hinting at plans for an unprecedented Republican National Convention right before voters head to the polls.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said that the GOP is “doing really well” and positioned the party to “WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS,” while blasting what he called the “Country Destroying mistakes” of the previous Biden administration.
“The Republican Party is doing really well. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN. We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS,” Trump wrote.
Trump touted the GOP’s fundraising haul, claiming Republicans have raised “far more money than the Democrats,” and praised the state of the country under his leadership.
“We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace!!!” he added.

Then, the president revealed he is considering recommending something that has never been done before: a National Republican Convention just prior to the midterms. “In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!!!”
National conventions are traditionally reserved for presidential election years to formally nominate candidates, set the platform, and energize the base. If Trump follows through, a National Convention before the midterms would be an unprecedented political maneuver — one designed to showcase GOP unity and Trump’s continued influence as party leader.
For now, the plan remains an idea only. It would require approval from the Republican National Committee (RNC), chaired by Trump ally Joe Gruters. The RNC has not confirmed whether it will move forward with Trump’s proposal, though his influence over party leadership makes the suggestion difficult to ignore.
Looking further ahead, the 2028 Republican National Convention is already set for Houston, Texas. The gathering will be held at the Toyota Center, continuing the party’s tradition of rotating convention sites to battleground states or Republican-leaning strongholds. That convention will serve its classic purpose: formally nominating the GOP ticket for president and vice president while uniting the party ahead of the general election.
A pre-midterm convention in 2026 could mark an unprecedented move to leverage Trump’s popularity and energize voters. But regardless of that decision, the party is firmly on track for a traditional nominating convention in Houston in 2028.
For now, the president’s parting words leave Republicans and Democrats alike waiting to see whether the idea will move from a hint to reality: “STAY TUNED!!!”
